By the way, there is a film on here for free called THE WARRIOR TRADITION, I've seen it before and it's got some great teaching. It is definitely worth watching.

I'm an EBCI Cherokee, and I served for 15 years as a sniper. My Cherokee grandfather gave me the skills that kept me alive in those combat zones, without his teachings I wouldn't be alive. Then, when I needed her the most, I started chatting with a girl I had known in high school decades ago. She invited me to spend New Year's Eve with her. I had no money though because I was just another homeless Native veteran. She paid my airfare too. I had no idea what to expect, but when we saw each other we held each other tightly. At that moment, I knew she needed a Cherokee name, Avenasa, which means My Home. We fell in love and have been together for 15 years. Here's the real kicker: she was getting her Masters degree in mental health counseling. Although she couldn't counsel me, she pushed me in the right direction to deal with my PTSD. I don't think I'll ever get over PTSD, but with the tools I've picked up I have learned to cope with it better. I saw so many of my brothers cross over during combat. Add all of the terrible sights and smells and it would be shocking if it didn't bother anyone. My wife counseled kids and young adults who were victims of trauma for 7 years, and she now counsels at a suicide prevention hotline. I think she saw the turmoil I went through each time another friend became 1 of the 22 per day, and decided to try and help. In Cherokee, there is no word for goodbye, we say donadagohvi, which means until we meet again. For all of you who served too, thank you or wado in Cherokee, for your service. Blessings from our Cherokee Creator, Unetlanvhi.

I heard this the first time when I was 9 or 10, and it’s stuck with me for years and years (probably 15 or so - shh!) - today I finally looked it up, and it’s just as funny as I remember

I had a Trigger as a child. But my favorite Saturday afternoon movie cowboy was Lash LaRue. That 15 or 20 ft whip he used could do everything but cook!

Not one of the audience members understood the weight of the line "OH I could pen her, but then could I sleep?" Nothing funny about that line. The Man that wrote this poem was in tears when thinking it up, dreading the moment he brought that Ole cow into the lot to end her hard earned freedom and see that look of defeat in her eyes. Like he said, she was one of the last of her kind, and I , like him, hope that Ole gal never did see the inside of a pen

There have been "pure country" legends like Don Williams who never compromised on the "country". But Don Edwards is a league apart. I haven't yet come across a singer quite like him. His voice will live on forever.

I know of this poem because I came by it in a song, vocalized by a brilliant female voice. I cannot find the song, but it has country feels. It is lovely, bitter, sweet and true.
