The jpeg is cracking me up. It is indeed very playful music. Maybe even noise for baby if your parents are committed to raising a freak. I wonder what Tom thought about his album being given the ovalprocess treatment. I think it's actually pretty beautiful and lots of fun. Oval was one of the most interesting electronic musicians for quite a while, and even the later fake string/ physical modeling stuff is interesting and charming. But yes, personally my favorite Oval was the late 90s early 2000s, and this was also Squarepusher's peak imo, so it's neat to get such an unlikely pairing like this. Something harder to imagine? Artists remixing Oval's material. I highly doubt they're getting multitracks or even stems off this guy 😄 maybe a mysterious executable file that turns their computer into a self-programming granular or FM synth. But then again, he always stressed how painstakingly manual his music making process was 🤷

it could be worse - "The Fat Truckers did a remix of "Sunrise" for the single release - uniquely, they removed all instrumentation and instead composed the track solely from loops and quick-cuts of Jarvis Cocker sighing and breathing heavily" lol i'm quite keen on it tbh

They were a band from Sheffield that seemed to know every northern musician ever, and Jarvis Cocker (he did vocals for one (?) of their songs, and replaced Tony Christie in another sometimes) - one of them did a couple of really great but bonkers and extremely northern concept albums with Maxine Peake

@@Neurodisco77 Yep - they go by the name of The Eccentronic Research Council and the two I'm thinking of are the 1612 Underture (about the Pendle Witch Trials) and Johnny Rocket (about a hilariously obsessed fan of a band with bordering on no fans, unsurprisingly much funnier than the first but still quite dark) but I see they've put out a couple more since then

I've always wondered why The Chem Bros remix never sounded anything like the original, and I was always mystified by it. I guess it's because this version was never officially released?

I *think* they used more of the original than is apparent, but it's either extremely edited or they've focussed on the really secondary features, like at 5:30 when it gets spacey I'm pretty sure that's the just weird bedding sound underneath the whole of the original, they've just really made a feature of it. It makes me a bit sad that the original doesn't do the same
