I live in the Philippines and my 20 year old account was established in the USA. My links accounts are in usa in dollars. My son in China sent me dollars but because I am living in the Philippines, they automatically converted it to pesos. There is NO option in my wallet to select currency as PayPal told me. I transferred the money to my checking account and my bank will likely convert it back to dollars costing me probably 5% or more. A text message told me me the transfer should show up on my account in 1-2 days so it shouldn’t take longer than 7 days (their words, not mine). Time to close my account. PayPal was not helpful at all.

Good info but the biggest cost in international transfers is corresponding bank fees which are ridiculously high for some countries, if sending a few hundred $$, expects to lose $35-50USD, sent $$ twice, Canada to Ecuador. The smaller Transfer companies don't or won't tell you the potential corresponding bank charges, you only know when you see what the recipient actually receives!

After I received an email regarding an unsettled transaction and money had been returned by the receiver's bank to Western Union and Western Union refund money to my bank account and transaction between me and Western Union was done. Then I used another option to send refunded money to the receiver and I sent the refunded money from my bank account by direct wire transfer to the same account to the receiver's bank. I don't have any control on the receiver's bank.Then 43 days later Western Union asked for the money back, I received an email from Western Union: "that it was an internal error that caused the transaction to be completed and also being refunded". Based on misinformation by the Western Union, I am sending the second payment to the receiver's bank. It's not my responsibility to recover any money from the receiver's bank if any was mishandled by the Western Union. Western Union executive resolutions department made a clear decision: "Please be advised that this won't bring any legal implications to you", but the Risk Collections department threatened me "outstanding balance may be sent to a Third Party Collections Agency and your credit score may be affected" The Company does not solve the problem after filing a complaint with CFPB and email to Global Customer Engagement Director Agne Domarkiene, Executive Resolution Lisa Baker, President of Consumer Money Transfer Khalid Fellahi. After more than 170 years in business, Western Union is no longer reliable and can't be trusted.

In my opinion I was robbed by PayPal for using my Canadian Credit card to purchase a 10K plus item on Nov 7th from a US website! Instead of simply entering my credit card info directly to the website I chose the pay with PayPal option. I was unaware that PayPal would then use a US to CDN exchange rate WAY below the average rate that day. Having spoken with Visa, they would have used a rate of 1 CAD = 0.7328 USD and PayPay used 1 CAD = 0.6965 USD. The difference on $10909 US dollars was $642. Had I used my credit card Visa would have charged me $15,028 but PayPay passed on a charge of $15,663. When my item was fully refunded in US dollars on Nov 25 Visa was using an exchange rate of 1 USD = 1.3591 CAD for $14,988 BUT PayPal used 1 USD = 1.3645 CAD for $14,827. The resulting difference of $61when added to the $643 that I was added at the time of my purchase resulted in me owing $704 CAD to visa for an item that I don’t even have anymore. This is the result of my poor choice to use PayPal instead of just using my Visa Card direct. I have now unlinked all my of credit cards from my PayPal account and will never use PayPal to pay for ANYTHING ever again. I will be sharing my experience with as many people that I can and posting this online to as many platforms as possible to warn the public about using PayPal.
