Sorry there is a lot of nonsense advice here. 'Be different and stand out' That is entirely subjective PoV from the target organisation who is hiring. Focus on getting good, but more importantly, getting experience. If you genuinely want to succeed in Cuber Security, you need a strong IT background first as in work in a service desk, work for 2nd/3rd line, work as a programmer, work in data centres, work building and deploying campuses. Yeah labs are great, but they are 10% of what you need. Unfortunately there is no shortcut. And you should be avoiding big companies. Big companies are full of HR weasels and have no idea about capability beyond their inbred 15 interview program. Yes they pay well, but if you see the amount of alumni who become youtubers it's embarrasing. You must learn your craft and do stuff you dont want to do. Thats the type of person I want working for me.

This is not very good advice on education. The certifications that you mention are mostly useless unless you’re applying for government jobs.

Awesome content...just last week i was thinking about settling for help desk because I felt (at the time) getting employed Cloud Security is going to take too long. BUT I decided against and am refocusing all my attn on learning GCP.

Thanks for your video. I have 34 years in IT and 5 years in it security officially. I have just been voluntold to be GRC manager and i am struggling with what the official expectations will likely be. I already do vul. mgmt. and reporting, risk assessment, policies and procedures, etc. and have worked closely with internal and external auditors, run project, controlled budgets and all other things that come with 34 years of it support and management. I guess my concern is what this formalization should look like? Any suggestions. P.S. just came out of left field and have not had one on one with the CISO to discuss yet but do not want to go in blind.
