@AutumnRedАй бұрын
I wished this game wouldn't focus so much on the parry mechanic, otherwise I love it, but the forced parry, specially on the higher difficulty enemies, ends up killing the fun for me. Nioh was a lot more free when it came to player decisions on how to play, defending or attacking, here we get a lot of cool attacking moves that we can't barely combo because the enemies won't stop spamming attacks with hyper armor and what not. If this game had the freedom Nioh had it would've been noticeably better and one of my all time favorite games up there with Nioh, for now it's still a step down, a great game, but definitely not as great as Nioh.
@AxelSGАй бұрын
I feel the same, sadly there's a lot of that in action games nowadays, shoving the parry mechanic down our throats in order to play the game in any decent way, very limiting :/ Not only that but ki management in this game is terrible too
@AutumnRedАй бұрын
@@AxelSG totally agree, the ki management and also some animations being way too long considering how quick the combat is. I think the game would have been so much better with just a couple decisions going the right way instead of what they did, with very small changes it would open a lot more space for fun in combat

Tried the beta for like 2 hours. Kinda hated it. Its like MHWorlds but even more complicated and I just can't handle it. Bounced off so hard. There's too much going on, too many items, too many icons, the HUD/UI is far too busy with too many little boxes, it throws way too much at you way too fast and it seems quite hostile to new players. lots of button presses for very little pay off too. Me and my friend really wanna get into MH games but they're just too much. They do such a bad job at explaining things and what things do etc. you have to google a PhD in these games to have the slightest idea of how to really do things. Its hard to explain what its like to people who are super accustomed to these games just how much of them it totally opaque :/
@AxelSG2 ай бұрын
i see, sorry to hear that, imo it's not a specially complicated game, but I could try to give a bit of a tutorial for rookies, tho centered on the longsword cuz I haven't messed around with the other weapons much xd
@satyasyasatyasya57462 ай бұрын
@@AxelSG Its not so much the 'logic' of the game. I get the concept and gameplay loop; I get what is expected of you when you play, ya know? Heck I love Wild Hearts - which is another monster hunting game and far simpler/cleaner (you might like it actually, its super japanesey and the character creation is basically the one from Nioh2 with even more stuff xD). Anyways, what I'm trying to say is, the game is just like... menu to menu, screen to screen, the tabs in tabs in tabs, the countless items in tiny little black boxes, some of the baffling inconsistent controls; its just overwhelming. There's no down time at first to get your bearings either, you're just dumped into a hunt. Like, its all visually too busy aswell, all the aforementioned tiny black squares, the endless icons you have no idea what they mean, fiddling with the radial menu, the sub menus in tabs in submenus just to gesture for example, its just kinda noisey to me. Its too many button presses away from doing basic things - which is a very important concept in game/tech design. Like, if it they redesigned the menus and HUD and such to be super clean, clear, elgant, sure I'd like it, but they won't. I feel so overstimulated/overloaded when i just try to navigate menus all the time. I really hope i'm not the only one. I think the issue is that as a series, its gone on for so long and adopted and adapted so much, adding more and more things without really integrating or streamlining, that and unless you've been with it for a while, its just too much for any new player. The floor is just too high to get on with it. I gave MonsterHunterWorld a really good try several times, but I found myself totally avoiding the endless inventory screens, shops, systems, checklists and post hunt 'check-ins' etc. it was just far too much to manage and conceptualise. but yeh, suffice to say I bounced off hard. And no doubt I'll try again, but at this point, I really don't think it'll ever be for me, despite wanting it to be :( like, they must know they're losing players to this endless complexity. thanks for coming to my TEDtalk

Oh I didn't even know this was out yet. Hmmm. Kinda gives me "CodeVein had a baby with Lords of the Fallen" vibes. I'm not a fan of the artstyle tbh and things look a little 'non physical' if that makes sense. Like, nothing has any mass somehow? Also, on the parrying, maybe parry games just aren't for you? Alot of people like the journey to getting the timings just right, and there's real skill in that. But they're not bad for demanding "surgical precision" as you say, but i guess you're more of a dodger, as are most of us :P Maybe you just need more time with the game for it to click? I almost always bounce off any game I play the first time - I can't tell you how much I hated Nioh2 when I played it the first time (now its my fav game) - but then I come back a few weeks later and somehow, it clicks. AxelDon'tDoPrecisionGo :D
@AxelSG2 ай бұрын
@@satyasyasatyasya5746 Well, for the artstyle, I have no issues with it, and it doesn't feel weightless at all like in code vein, so physics/animations in that regard are nice. As for the precision, it's not really that, I just hate how reactive it is, it becomes stale, lacking proactivity. Main reason why I like thymesia the most when it comes to parry based games is that it doesn't shove the parry mechanic down your throat by making dodges suck, and it doesn't limit you with the stamina, this game is close to that but the stamina is a big limiting factor, you can dodge but it punishes you by consuming stamina for doing that. So when you pair that with the inability of recovering stamina in a proactive way (like ki pulse and fluxing in Nioh) it doesn't feel great even if it still has its uses. Plus, the parry mechanic also gives u even more rewards on top of it. Stellar Blade for example doesn't have the stamina issue, but dodging is designed to be more of a secondary element vs parrying, and there's a lot of strict input gimmicks built into it (like, u have to so this particular thing when it glows blue/purple/yellow) plus the extra stun rewards for parrying, again, limit your options realistically. Nioh 2 gives you total freedom on what to do at any point, even with burst counters, you are not forced to counter them, you get rewards for countering but it's not necessary, and is also a less common occurrence. And you still have timely guard mechanics in it, but again, it's just an extra thing, not the main gimmick on how to play the damn game. The issues I have with Wo long, believe it or not, have basically nothing to do with it being a parry based game, and everything to do with the rest of the game (already talked about this in that post 1.07 update review vid). Like, funnily enough, wo long's core gameplay system is actually pretty damn good, if you ignore the fact that it doesn't let you dodge, it's way more proactive than most deflect based games, including specially Rise of the Ronin (the damn fcking stamina system being a good example of why it's bad when not balanced properly) it's a shame that it's paired with so much bs tbh. Also recent gow games have parrying integrated into it and I like using it, but again, not shoved down your throat as the one and only mechanic to rule over them all. TLDR: It's not the precision, is the the fact that when you make it a core mechanic that downplays the rest of options, instead of it just being an extra mechanic for optimising your combat, the game becomes less proactive and more reactive and limiting, specially with a stamina system that doesn't factor that into the combat equation. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
