I think if the oponent doesn`t move, one should work in improving Seme, and try to make the oponent moves and try to make him (her) loses the center. It´s not a wise decision (dangerous too) try to do an ippon before taking control the center. I would like to know your opinion Sensei.

I think Fumikomi is a way to emphasise and focus your energy/strength on a single action, to strike, and to propel yourself forwards for that matter

Greetings, Imafuji sensei. I am inclined to Edo sensei's stance. Anything that is excluded from exam will be lost. Olympic Karate and Taekwondo is a good example, they have become more of a point scoring sport rather than a martial arts. It is true that most of us cannot focus on every technique of Kendo, but then most of us do not need to reach the level of 6th, 7th, and 8th dan. Let those have higher dans who care to practice. Katas are helpful, but not as effective as the exams. If techniques keep getting excluded from the exam, Kendo becomes no more than a point scoring sport with bamboo sticks. And if the training becomes too much exam oriented, then the meaning and purpose of Kendo loses value too, because the trainees then will focus mainly on the techniques required in the exam. But if it is more oriented towards perfecting the techniques, then can it lead to the meaning and purpose of Kendo. To sum up, all techniques should be compulsary to the higher dan exams (depending which dan the exam is), and without executing those techniques, one should not be able to pass, regardless of how good their score is. This is necessary in order to preserve the meaning and soul of Kendo. Best Regards

I suffer from a back pain too. I hurt my back for the first time when I was 12. Ever since, in multiple ways possible, it attacks me. I had to stop training for about 2 years because of my back. Through my experience, I can tell you this. Rest when it hurts. Make sure it doesn't hurt anymore. And then go back to training. And make sure you know what to do when it hurst you so bad, including this → www.patreon.com/posts/110295088

@@KendoGuide Thanks a lot for your answer. With my whole heart I hope you get better, as I know how lifestyle declines with these kinds of issues. To me it has improved, like you said, after this comment I rested for a week and have been stretching all of these days. It still bothers me, but it has gotten really better. I have also been doing meditation and Wuji stance, it has improved my muscles and made me able to move without stressing my back too much. Before I bought my bokken I was afraid of not going anywhere with it, but now standing where I am, I'm really glad there was people like you teaching others ❤️ With utmost respect, I hope you can get better, we are growing in unexpected ways daily. Maybe whatever is blocking your back and mine will be something we understand better tomorrow, or so I hope.

It's a little hard to see. Do you mean that we need to keep our hands forward to complete the strike instead of bringing our hands to our chest?

Thank you for your comment. if you want to do taiatari, then you need to do it properly. If you don't, then keep your posture and hand positions as you executed a men strike. Does it make sense?

@KendoGuide
@KendoGuide Ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment, @westbladep! 😄 That's fine. I am not denying taiatari. Many of my students struggle to keep their hands up when they get close to their opponent after striking men. If they want to do taiatari, they should. They should not drop their hands halfway through if they want to complete their men's strike. it is about what action do you want? First, they need to learn how to complete their strike. Then learn taiatari. That is what I think at the moment. :)

It's increadible to think about that i'm currently 4° kyu and i'm 15 Years old And it's scary that even in the best scenario possible 8th dan will be achived like, in 50 years so even in the best time possible i will be old 😮

Thanks for your comment, @mieterxx0817! 😄 You have to be 13 years old to challenge 1-dan. If you constantly pass each dan, you only need 31 years for 8-dan. But you need to be at least 46 years old for 8-dan. So, you can challenge your 8-dan before 50 😉👍

Would I be wrong to interpret getting back on your feet to be less about pushing your body upwards with your right leg and more pushing yourself back onto your left foot?
@KendoGuide
@KendoGuide 18 күн бұрын
Thanks for your question, @ME-hm7zm! If you are talking about getting up from the seiza position, you are right. But this is one way to "effortlessly" to get up. 😁

I practice kendo 1995. Which I am practicing again after 30 years, which I started again which my left foot keeps going to outside. The issue is that 2012 to 2016. i broke my foot and have aluminum pieces in my right leg. It doesn’t hurt,, but should I keep practicing or end it. I love kendo and my old friends. My friends are now 40 and 50 and an I am the old guy. Should I continue or stop??? Frank 😢
@KendoGuide
@KendoGuide Ай бұрын
Thanks for leaving a message, @Californiansurfer! 😄If your left foot keeps opening to the left because of the injury, then let it be. That is your "natural" stance. I snapped the left Achilles tendon, tore the left knee MCL and ACL, and had operations on the right and left shoulders. My back has been bad since when I was 14. My left wrist has been bad since when I was 12. Now at the age of 50, I am suffering from pain in my right elbow and left hip joint. I have no plan to quit kendo. I think every single person should do their own kendo. If you cannot have your left foot straight, that is fine. Do what you can do. We don't need to do kendo like younger people. I believe older people can still become stronger and have fun in kendo. If you need help, let me know. My father started kendo at the age of 55. He became 5-dan. www.kendo-guide.com/unknown_kendoist.html 😊👍

I am very proud to say I am the first blind kendo practitioner in Chile. I started back in january this year. It's an honour. We're a growing dojo, and I have found knowledge, wisdom, and family. We're now working with sensei, shihan, and the federation to adapt combat and lessons, so not only would I be able to fight, but also share my world with the rest. It's been wonderful. Hugs, oss!
