Of all the things that border collies can learn, why teach them this. There are more bigger stronger breeds more suitable for this job. I have collies and I know that they are naturally protective of their owners and property, but only when they know it's necessary, because they are intelligent. Yes they have teeth are very quick moving and very agile tough and brave. But if they locked on to a full grown man, they could easily be hurt and even killed. Too light weight against a full grown fit human. This is a waste of a good dog. Stick to the usual macho breeds.
@xido21
@xido21 2 жыл бұрын
I try again...this is nothing to do with protective owner or property, yes we called protection work but it is still only a sport for hyperactive dog because no many people are doing sheeps over here. Only a job for dog like agility or whatever, the owner like protection work so he is doing with his BC, what is matter? Why a human doing the sport karate and for example no golf? Because he like it and got assumptions that is all. People are offended about this video because has no idea how important is health for dogs, yes a job, keep them busy, excercises are keeping dogs health...physicaly and mentaly as well especialy working breeds. I am owned a jagdterrier but i am not a hunter and this dog love protection work, he is doing also agility, obedience, searching detection like a policecdog, hiking...if he doesnot he will frustrated and become unsocial, aggression etc...please believe me, i have sold 25-30 fully trained dogs a year around the world mostly to US, i am traveling to US couple times a year to do training dogs, i got my own training centrer, i do fix unbehaviour dogs of any breeds, i am a breeder and i am doing this for over 30 years so i know what i am talking about. Thanks for reading... all the best for everyone and wish you got healthy dogs...🐕‍🦺

What crap! It’s all a game of tug-a-war. That dog won’t know what to do if there is no sleeve! Border Collies are awesome dogs. Stealth attack is best suited for dogs that dart in and out and make a lot of noise. Any dog that takes hold like this example, ends up with a knife in the chest. Malinois and German Shepherds are only good when backed up by a gun!

wow lots of ignorant comments from people assuming things here that have zero knowledge of what they are looking at. First off this dogs being trained for the sport of schutzhund. The dogs love this work and for any high drive breed its an extremely satisfying outlet for their energy. Protection is just one aspect of it , the dogs have to also compete in tracking and obedience as well at the same event and all this is only allowed if he passes a test of stable temperament and basic training called a BH. Secondly the methods used to train them are not cruel nor is the dogs temperament changed by teaching this. Its like humans learning martial arts or boxing, they dont become viscious ,they just know how to bite calmly, let go when told(not what they are working on in this video, thats why you dont see it) guard a threatening person with barking but not biting and only biting when told. Lastly, any breed can compete in this sport even though it was originally done with German Shepherds( also a sheep herding breed) theres a border collie that competed at a national/world level for awhile and plenty out there competing now. One even beat dozens of traditional breeds to win the US FH championship last year ( tracking) . So if you've never owned a border collie or competed in schutzhund get down off your soapbox, youre not in a position knowledgable enough to judge.

@@Rikkcas nice comeback. Ive titled 3 dogs and trained in competitive dog sports the last 20 years, im on my third german shepherd, im training my border collie for this sport. I have a competition next week. Ive also competed in herding. So yeah, actually i am in a position to judge this video.as showing a dog being legit trained and knowing this is not abuse or unsuitable work for the breed. The guy that shows his BC in this sport at a top.level is also a friend . So maybe just admit you dont know your ass from your elbow looking at a training video on this one.

@@xido21 no problem, i wonder if some explanations of what you're working on along with video of the dog being friendly to a neutral situation would help. I have to just laugh at people sometimes and their insistance to berate something they know nothing about based only off their immediate emotional reaction. Nice work on that dog in the video, my BC pups only 6 months so all he's done is the beginnings of bark/hold and working his grip but he loves it. I compete in several venues with my GSDs , its funny that the herding people tell me schutzhund will ruin my dog on sheep, then Akc people tell me schutzhund will make my dog viscious and the schutzhund people just laugh that iwaste my time with other sports then all are shut right up when my dog does better than theirs.

My border collies are naturally protective. And yes, they come up from behind sometime. But why make them mean and aggressive? Wtf? And hitting them lightly with a baton? Really? There’s a place in hell for people that dilute the natural BC instincts. Training them to attack is not one of them. My three protect naturally. They don’t need ‘aggressive training’ like that dog is being given. We may disagree, but trust me…. I’ve had 7 BCs. Well trained,loyal, smart, and selective of people naturally. They are gentle and intelligent,but not mean. What’s the point of changing that? It’s not their normal nature at all. If you want an aggressive guard dog consider getting a German shepherd, Doberman, or similar dogs like that. That’s not a job description for Border Collies. No excuses and justification either. It’s bs. Stop it!

💯Well said! I had footage where an intruder concentrating to break into a window, was met by a B C. Trying to kick the dog, no good. Pulled out a knife and tried chasing the dog, no good. Went back to the window to continue to enter and BC was on his tail again. Interesting part was, it seemed the dog had an expression of “lm Back“ He definitely was a determined intruder but he couldn’t turn his back on the dog. The intruder got pounded by the neighbour. You can’t turn and run with Mr BC on your case! 😡🤬🥵😭

Do you have any tips for me training my BC? My Bc used to go to the dogpark every day ever since he was 3 months old. He recently bit another dog that had growled and barked at him the day before. Do you have any experience with fear reactive BC's and how did you help them through it? I would love to know since he is only 8 months old so I really want to train him in my best ability through puberty.

@@user-zc6ug3qh3z Does your dog display any fear at home, in anyway? The worst case scenario is it’s genetic instead of environmental. Remember genetics can be adjusted but not changed. Environmental can be changed and adjusted. So you have to find out, where is it coming from.
