It's mind boggling that we have to over-engineer a shower because the designer or plumber didn't know how to install the valves in the correct place.

That's a pretty stupid take. The customer probably wanted it to be as naked as possible. They may have even wanted the controls over there for some reason. To insinuate that the plumber who did something this intricate couldn't install a simple shower body that even the most inexperienced DIYer could do is very ignorant.

I 100% agree! However that’s a challenge with any fixture throughout any home on any project. If they don’t get discontinued, they get redesigned. It also happens with any level. It doesn’t have to be high end. So what I do is try to stick to long time companies with a good long background, like Kohler (seen here). We would never be able to shape or form anything otherwise. Another great example of what you’ve described is electronics
