Totally Fascinating and a GREAT Posting.....👍👍👍👍👍 I was wondering.....HOW does that crewman get the weight, with your 'Description', I understand now. So it is just radioed back-forth between the initial weight of the pilot -> to the crewman -> confirmed (yes/no, higher/lower/approv weight) -> the crewman in that one (1) hatch between the cats.🤔 Great coordination between All Personnel (men and women) of our USN!! USN Vet FF/FFGs 84 - 05

Before the event, the Launching Officer (Shooter) receives the initial weight of each aircraft from Flight Deck Control. The Launching Officer gives these weights to the Weight Board Operator, who writes them on the back of the Weight Board. For example, the WBO would write "200 - 50" on the Weight Board, which would mean "Aircraft Side Number 200, Weight 50,000". When the bird shows up to the track, they'd show 50 on the board, and the pilot would confirm, or indicate to raise/lower the weight. The WBO would confirm the correct weight, then pass it on to the Shooter, who would be in the ICCS or with the Centerdeck Operator in the hatch. Hope this makes sense!

On the Saratoga we launched everything in under 10 minutes.i had the flu once and we had a ready alert for 5 minuted..i was a grape so you have to keep your hands on the nozzle while your fueling. An F4was sitting by the island waiting its turn it was so hot under ther i sweat my flu out and wasnt sick anymore

I hope this gets answered....... Question #1, what does that 'red shirt' pull.... on the fuselage and near-by wing tip missile...is it a pin?? Checking flaps?? Question #2, at the end of the video... there looks like a polygon raised metal structure that is placed on top of the "scooter"...is that on as planes are landing as well?? Question #3, also at the end of the video... there were three - four (3-4) brackets that were screwed into the 'gap' of the catapult, I never seen that, what is that for?? Thanks for posting USN Veteran OI Division onboard FF/FFGs 84 - 05

What were the additional flames on that first Tomcat A launch? Is that reasonably typical?
@FlightDeckLife18 күн бұрын
It's likely that that Tomcat was a Combat Rated Thrust launch, and needed full afterburners to get off deck due to it's weight.
@michaelmappin44255 күн бұрын
@@FlightDeckLifeMost definitely. Alpha tomcats were all AB during cyclic weights.

Would have been especially nice if the camera wasn't waving back and forth faster than the eye can focus on the object of interest. Maybe somebody else will do it.

We had no issues focusing on things! This goes to show you how quickly we have to analyze the situation on the flight deck. It takes months of training to adapt.

These boats sail on saltwater oceans. Corrosion is inevitable.
@stanmansАй бұрын
@@FlightDeckLife I’ll accept that. I was in the tank corp years ago. Patton M48. The interiors were painted white. . (i think they still are white) To maintain discipline,(among other expectations, tank cleanliness and maintenance, etc.)I expected white meant white. We had minicontests. The tank crew that lost bought beer for the whole group. It may sound harsh but the crews were always ready for whatever was thrown at them. We had excellent camaraderie.
@michaelmappin44255 күн бұрын
@FlightDeckLife Yep. Corrosion prevention is a full-time job.
@michaelmappin44255 күн бұрын
There are probably about 1000 of those dogging latches on the flight deck. I can't see them ever replacing them with stainless steel. We do have maintenance that gets regularly performed.
@stanmans5 күн бұрын
@@FlightDeckLife true. We “sailed” on grass and dirt. Definitely not the same. Among many other things, discipline was what mattered
