A friend of mine and I bought 2 of those lathe kits back in the '70s. At the time we both worked for a specialty steel company in Pittsburgh and ours had solid stainless steel rounds instead of conduit. Overkill but looked great and was solid.

well of course it's going to catch the majority of the big stuff. what matters is what MAKES IT ONTO THE FILTER!!! same mistakes all these guys make. use equal amounts of flower or find chalk for both toppers AND WEIGH THE FILTER! 2 clean filters weighed clean, then after dust. what's in the bucket or the vac barrel doesn't tell the real difference.

Scott: another extremely interesting and entertaining video. It seems like a lot of people were trying to "copy" the Shopsmith multipurpose machine! What you showed demonstrates "Yankee" ingenuity. ( I apologize to the southerners). BUT, there's nothing like the "real" thing, especially with regards to safety issues. I recall seeing many plans for DIY belt sanders in various wood working magazines, and a lot of interesting DIY creations on You Tube. It seems to me that a lot of DIYers try to "reinvent the wheel". jim

It reminds me of some of the tools in my Dad's shop. like the first table saw I ever used. it was a collection of things that he used to cobble together small tablesaw. how I managed to never lose a finger on that thing is beyond me. but it did teach me one important lesson, control the environment where you are using tools, don't allow anyone to sneak up behind you when your working. I was cutting a piece of wood on that table saw and someone came up from behind me and said,"hey tom" I jumped and my right hand went into the spinning blade. that was 60 years ago and I still have a scar, the blade hit at the knuckle of my little finger, thankfully my finger works fine but it was very tender for a lot of years.

Use a dial indicator on the the table in the chuck and you will get it dead nuts. Also If you have a older machine and the bearings are getting worn you can have runout issues that can cause issues in ever function. Also the old old machines before the mid 80's have on less bearing in them unless they have been upgraded.
