I just bought this charger (EU Type) as a cheap travel charger for when i am travelling in Europe. I had a cheap unbranded one i was using but it gets stupidly hot and it makes me nervous one day it'll set on fire. I dont like using adapters when traveling as it's something else to take along. I liked this charger can accept type C and type A cables to charge my various devices. i only ever charge one device at a time, and this great tear down puts my mind at ease that the safety side (i.e. good isolation and onboard fuse etc) is acceptable. Thank you for the video, it has been very helpful 🙂

That module routes the USB 5V directly to its 5V power output pin. If you have a 3.3V Arduino you connect the 5V power output pin to the Arduino VIN pin (that also works with some 5V Arduinos, e.g. the Arduino Nano Every). If you have a 5V Arduino you connect the 5V Power Output directly to a 5V pin of the Arduino (note that for some 5V Arduino, like the Arduino Nano Every, you can use the VIN pin, which is the better/safer solution).

Thank you so much for the detailed review of all aspects (electronic, mathematical and physical as well as code). I love gaining a somewhat deep understanding of how everything works instead of just plugging something in and hoping for the best. Your teaching style is both enjoyable and very easy to follow! Couldn't stop myself from watching the entire series in a short amount of time. Glad to have some of the observations I made myself about the magnetometer confirmed by you! For my purposes the sensor will suffice for now, as I'm looking to build a wearable compass belt that, through vibration on the skin, indicates the direction of magnetic north. So as long as I am roughly in the correct hemisphere it is already a good first step. Not to mention that as a wearable, I will probably have to deal with tilt compensation eventually. In parallel, I'm already looking at some IMUs with magnetometer and 9 DOFs (with fusion) as alternatives, sort of as "dead reckoning" mode. Seems like some chips out there can correct for long-term gyro drift with the compass. Again, thank you very much for your efforts and I'm already looking forward to watching your series about the MMC5983MA! :) PS: Will be fun dancing around with the belt in circles for the calibration, as we have learned that it should be conducted in the final system. :D

Why don't you try ferric chloride? I think that method will save much time.
@robertssmorgasbord
@robertssmorgasbord 7 күн бұрын
Yes, ferric chloride etches PCPs faster. But that faster etching can also be a drawback when controlling the process. Also, ferric chloride is a quite opaque liquid and stains things. Sodium persulfate is a clear liquid (with a bluish tint from the copper when used) and doesn't stain things. That all said, it comes down to your personal preferences/priorities (fast vs. slow, opaque vs. clear) and how easy you can source these chemicals 😉

... a well pump of 1000w which has a start winding and run winding. Problem is, inrush current is larger than the 5kw inverter can handle. Solar installers recommend a large inverter of 10kW to be able to handle the inrush current which I think is an overkill for inrush current of a few milli seconds. Which is the best way to go to limit the inrush current? Ntc thermistor may also be an option, but repeat start within the cooling off period of the ntc of about 2 minutes will cause another large inrush current. Not sure if ssr zero crossing can be used to switch on/off an inductive load such as a borehole pump.
@robertssmorgasbord
@robertssmorgasbord 10 күн бұрын
First, of course you can use zero crossing to switch a borehole pump. But it will not necessarily reduce the total inrush current (just the spike when you switch on with the AC at its maximum voltage). Would it be feasible to "forbid" switching on the pump within 2 minutes after shut off with a little circuit, so the NTC can cool down? If NTCs are not an option, you'll might consider a variable frequency drive that slowly ramps up the RPM. It will set you back a few hundred bucks, but that's still cheaper than a 10kW inverter.

@robertssmorgasbord
@robertssmorgasbord 24 күн бұрын
Yes, it is possible, and yes, it makes a difference. Please note that in this case the TRIAC-optocoupler also has to be AFTER the load, otherwise you'll get excessive gate currents. Regarding the differences see that thread on the ST Microelectronics forum: community.st.com/t5/power-management/which-pin-should-drive-triac-load/td-p/290881 (NOTE: The drawing posted there by the user asking the question is wrong! @@robertssmorgasbord Thanks for your reply. Right now I have my load on the MT1 line. I have built a PID oven controller and it is working well. But still in development. I asked about this because I have read that the load should be on the MT2 side but all the example circuits, including yours are on the MT1 side. So if I put the load on the MT2 side the pin for the MOC3023 opto should be between the load and the MT2 connection? NOT before the load. Is that correct? I'll probably just leave it as it is because it's working but it would be good to know. Cheers Matt
@robertssmorgasbord
@robertssmorgasbord 21 күн бұрын
@@TYGAMatt Yes, if you connect the load to MT2, then one pin of the optocoupler needs to be connected between the load and MT2. The reason being, if the TRIAC is triggered, the voltage drop across the load will limit the current through the optocoupler, the gate resistor and the gate. I have to ask, where did you read that the load should be on the MT2 side? There are no advantages to that, only drawbacks.

Dear Professor, At 07:06 I am confused about the definition of the relative permitivity. If only the medium in BETWEEN the plates changes the relative permitivity and not by medium OUTSIDE of the plates, then how would the total Capacity change if a tank is filled with liquid SURROUNDING the capacitive sensor? As the liquid doesn't reach in between the plates, all variables relative permitivity, area and distance stay the same. Thank you for these videos. They are really helpful.

Have a look at kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJvGqqBonJelq80si=SiwEn3d_g7vvwXCx&t=530 : The permittivity of the medium between the plates (parallel field lines) is indeed constant, because the medium doesn't change there. However, there are also field lines on the outside of the plates (curved field lines), and those cross through the medium we're measuring (air vs. liquid). Thus the relative permittivity of the medium these field lines cross is changing. Hope that helps. BTW I'm not a professor 😅

The problem of measuring the level in sewage tanks (in marine application called grey and blackwater tanks) is that you might have particulate matter in your liquid that might stick to your sensor and thus throw the readings off. One counter measurement is a non-stick coating (e.g. Teflon) on the sensor. Another solution is to use a different kind of sensor. @@lsdave Ah, I totally skipped over that part. Sorry! TH is a thermistor. It's probably there to limit the inrush current (higher resistance when it's cold, when current flows through it and it's warming up its resistance decreases).

I have 1TB and all my drivers,OS, games and movies etc are inside which I can't access it due to the fatal hardware device error that is showing. How to resolve the problems.

Well, the best bet would be a data recovery service. My general advice (in your case for the future) is to make backups on a regular base.
