hi thanks for this video for science, incredible !👏 I found the solution to get more bandwidth with the combination: MSI Claw + UT3G + Thunderbolt HUB. Indeed, with the TB4 Satechi HUB, there's the Intel TB4 limitation with a 2200 mb/s 3000 mb/s bandwidth on MSI Claw. This is due to the HUB's Intel Goshen Ridge Chipset (TB4) and the MSI Claw. However, the UT3G is a USB4 ASM2464 chipset with 40 GB of bandwidth. There are bandwidth losses from USB4 to TB4 due to the Intel chipset. With the Legion Go, there's no loss because it's AMD USB4 and not Intel. Normally, the bandwidth is 3400 mb/s 3600 mb/s with the UT3G , but I bought a Thunderbolt 5 HUB from OWC, which gives more bandwidth with an Intel TB4 chipset. Now, the TB5 HUB chipset is Barlow Ridge. It provides more bandwidth for the MSI Claw in TB4, but less than for the Legion Go in USB4. According to my data, it's: 2800 mb/s 3600 mb/s on the MSI Claw Intel TB4 chipset. That's still more than the TB4 HUB. Thanks for showing me this trick with the UT3G/HUB/MSI CLAW combination. I now have a UT3G with the HUB OWC TB5, which allows me to connect all my peripherals (keyboard/mouse/XBox controller, SSD...) I had also tried the Satechi TB4 but there is less bandwidth. I sent it back to Amazon but it worked perfectly. If you get a chance, try the OWC TB5 HUB (it doesn't cost too much in reality).

thank You for as always for very interesting comment. i will try this hub in near future. also i will do some more tests with what i currently have. thanks again for Your support It's always nice to hear others' experiences with similar equipment. I hope that we will build a nice community here on the channel.

@@ThundTech it was you who got me thinking about using the HUB. Your channel is great with the tests. So I tried 3 hubs: Amazon Basics HUB TB4, Satechi slim Pro TB4 and OWC TB5. The worst is Amazon Bacisc because I was in PCI E 2.0 and big drops in performance : 1900 /2600 mb/s. Satechi's data is the same as yours: PCI 4.0 and 2200/3000 mb/s And with the OWC TB5: 2800/3600 mb/s. You can't do better than that with an Intel chipset . I also have the TH3P4G3, which also has 2200/3000 mb/s PCI E 3.0 . On the OWC TB5 manual, it's stated that it can be used to connect an egpu, which is interesting. there's only a 100 mb/s loss of bandwidth compared with connecting the UT3G directly to the MSI Claw without a HUB (but no power delivery). I've plugged in the egpu, keyboard/mouse/xbox controller/external SSD (not TB5) and also usb key. You can also plug in a Mac that has a TB port. I have an RTX 3060TI: I play either a 24" 1080p screen or directly on the MSI Claw with a 2-meter Belkin active Tb4 cable, which is fantastic.

Yes, I had my hub quite a while ago, before I started running the channel, I used it mainly for work. Your comment is very interesting and probably, knowing me; ) I will test your HUB even though it is about $100 more expensive. From what you write, the data stream goes at the same speed as directly between the EGPU and the device (laptop or console). very interesting, thanks for this info.

I can't really find anyone comparing the UT3G with a desktop PC. Everyone just compares it with other gpu docks that are more bandwith limited. So to my question, how much of a performance loss is there between this kind of setup and a full gaming PC?

@@ThundTech Thanks, finally someone that has some actual numbers compared to a desktop PC. As far as I can see from Cyberpunk at least, It's about 10-20% difference which should be just fine for me. I was more worried it would be like 30-40%. I'm planning on pairing my Ally X with a 7800XT. I already have everything except for the GPU which I'm still waiting for.

Incredible presentation., it's clean Gaming Avatar is magnificent in 4K with this MSI Claw CPU goes up to 100° omg. It's normal, it's Intel Meteor Lake CPU 99%, maximum performance with egpu with Thunderbolt 4 I played the game on Xbox Series X, and it was a little less beautiful at 30 fps 🥲 The game is mediocre but graphically impressive

Hello and thanks for the great comment. The game looks amazing, it's true. Developers could have made it a work of art, but we know what the reality is today when it comes to creating games:) I need to work on the CPU temperature in my free time - although I played Avatar for almost 4 hours without a break and there were no problems, it is still too high. ps. I need to see this game on xbox (i have series x also) someday, I like to compare how games look on different devices.

@@ThundTech On my Claw it also goes up to 100°, but I put some thermal paste back on after changing the SSD, but it's impossible to lower it, except to limit performance. This is also the case with an egpu. It's the Intel architecture I don't have any problems either, no crashes. It just heats up.
@ThundTech

exactly, I also changed the paste and there is no difference in temperature. Besides, the temperatures can also be high in the Asus Rog Ally, and I won't even mention the problems with the Lenovo. This is the first generation, let's see what happens next.

This generation of mobile computers certainly supports the development of eGPU and will gain even greater momentum if further versions of both "PC consoles" and Thunderbolt enter the market. we'll see what the future brings :) in the near future there will be more different tests/gameplays and more equipment. thanks for your support and see You next time :)

Thank you for showing this off! Thinking about doing something like this myself. Curious why you chose to use the UT3G and a dock over the TH3P4G3? I know the UT3G performs better, but thats only if it can use the full 40GB/s... Do you use any external drives or mouse / KB with the dock? If you do, is there any decreases in performance?
@ThundTech
@ThundTech 27 күн бұрын
I decided that UT3G would be a bigger challenge for the consoles I have (I might add that I already had most of the equipment needed to run it). and it will be a good choice to start the adventure with my KZbin channel. I want to share my passion with viewers and this is only the beginning of the implementation of my plans - I will have more of this type of equipment to be able to make various interesting comparisons and tests. I want this channel to be a place for people looking for information about mobile equipment used mainly for gaming. I believe that mobile PC (what the market currently offers) is the first generation of the future and the direction in which this technology will develop. regarding your question - after connecting the keyboard and mouse there will be no reduction in performance. have a nice day and happy new year :)
