Please have an outdoors rink at the coming olympics again, this is awesome to watch. I would also love a marathon on a lake or river. Also, why does skating without a klapschaats look so handicapped?

제가 초등학교 6학년 때... 정확히는 국민학교... 선생님이 외부 방송 틀어주신 유일한 방송... 그 때는 무조건 금메달 1등만 외치던 시절이라 세계 5등이 얼마나 대단한 건지 몰랐다. 동계 올림픽에선 메달조차 딴 적도 없으면서... 그래서 더 배기태 선수에 과도한 기대가 있었겠지만... 커서 보니, 우리나라의 당시 상황을 대비하자면 엄청 대단한 성과라는 걸 알게 됨...

Sad to realize that this speedskating track in Sarajevo, that some of the greatest long-track speedskaters once competed on in 1984, is today in total ruins…..and even sadder to realize that this track was the site of mass killings and torture during the Bosnian War ONLY 10 years later! I read with horror how thousands of people, many of them children, were killed by flying sniper bullets, how hundreds of women were gang-raped, how many men were imprisoned (men were subjected to torture and castrated)…right at this speedskating site. What a contrast to these wonderful games of the past. 😢

In my opinion, long-track speedskating suits back then, from the late 1970s to early 1990s, were superior to the ones worn by men now. Performance-wise and visually, the suits were sleeker and accentuated a man’s muscled physique, while reducing wind resistance.

Canadian speed skater Benoit Lamarche spectularly recovering from his 'shute' after about 220 meters and really putting all his effort to beat his opponent. Never seen anything like this anymore in almost 40 years. Watched it live on Dutch television by the time, 11 years old back then, with my dad. Great and exciting tournament on the most beautiful icerink (Inzell) which I shall never forget.

Bizar idee dat het record bij de dames nu bijna 10 seconden sneller is dan deze tijd... En uiteraard bij de heren 45 seconden sneller...blijft een raar idee...lijkt wel gisteren deze race...ik wordt oud😂
