First: A Scout experiences Scouting in patrol context, with exceptions for some troop activity. So he spends his time mainly doing stuff as a patrol member. The SPL leads through the PLs. Analogy: The patrol is the team. The troop is the league in which patrol play the "game" of Scouting.

The BSA version of Stages of Group Development is seriously inaccurate, per Bruce Tuckman. The stages come in many orders, and the first stage may be shy, demoralized and disinterested. He was emeritus at Ohio State and very open to discussing his work with adults in 12-Step groups.

Never do for a Scout what he/she can do for themsleves.. "Do" to what standard? To a kid's standard.

It is not known as the "Patrol System." That's in the UK, where all the leaders are appointed by the Scoutmaster/Group Leader. We use Bill's Patrol Method, where the leaders are elected.

The Scout must do EXACTLY what the requirement says except at summer camp and other advancement mill events where Merit Badges are handed out like party favors, as BSA knows perfectly well and at least tolerates.

Leadership Development, while still a "Method' is now also an Aim.

Excellent history, but BSA has literally closed the webpage on the Patrol Method: "Page Not Found. We apologize; the requested page does not exist on www.scouting.org.". Few units in this area even used the Troop Method. Mostly we have adult-run "troops" - not Scouting.

No way to do a reoccuring event?

Great job on having the goal to have eagle by the end of Freshman year, many scouts I know have randomly quit on everything related to boy scouts around that time, and it's quite tragic. Of course, they will get around to it when they turn 17 or so, but by then it's rushed, so thank you for adding that. Hopefully it will stop others from having the same that has happened to so many others.
