Grew up on Highland Blvd., went to St. Ann's and worked summers on the boardwalk in the 50's. We had neighbors like Bobie Shwin, Paul Hunter, Wallie Wall, Pete Graham. It was a short time in history for me but it couldn't have been better

Keansburg will always have a special place in my heart. I lived in many places in Keansburg and worked many jobs--delivered The Daily Register, worked at the Abjo Villa, worked at Koch Furniture store (remember that one?), worked the kiddie rides on the boardwalk, worked the record stand, heck, I grew up on the boardwalk. Really good times. And what a great song!

This town has a lot of local color. Drive through some of those narrow side streets where kitchen tables and living room arm chairs are permanently placed on the porches. If you're real lucky, you might get to see one of those skinny (or fat), craggy, toothless, barefoot ladies sitting on the stoop, smoking a cigarette. She might even yell a curse word at you in her raspy smoker's voice. Yes, that's Keansberg: Plenty of White Trash at its very best!

My mom was friends with the Gilhaus's. I wondered what happened to those models from the office above the Payboys on Beachway. Mr Gilhaus showed them to me with great pride when I was little (I'm 63 now) and I'm happy to see them at the museum.

Roger- My family took us kids there in the 60s. Does anyone recall a Gypsy Fortune Teller booth on the boardwalk? A sharp woman would sit sternly in front, high heels, jewelry, and legs crossed, with popping eyes and a serious, intense facial expression. It was called "Madame Pauline: Reader and Advisor." Does anyone remember this?

As a person who plays upside down guitar backwards left handed this is essential to play barre chords

My husband shoots video wherever we travel. This clip was where we stayed in a real part of town, accompanied by one of his songs. Thought it would make you smile! PS I am engrossed, enlightened and moved by reading Rays of Light. ❤

Just fabulous, I'm so glad I found this. I was born in Newark but grew up in Keansburg. I moved away many years ago, but I still have family in the area. I enjoy driving through town when I come home to visit. Is the museum in the old bakery building? I know there was a candy store or soda shop on the corner and there was a bakery in the same area. I believe the candy store was named lahody's, I probably miss spelled the name. I look forward to watching the rest of this sires.

That was a beauty salon in the 60s and 70s, Roma Foods had a bakery on the corner of Highland Blvd which latter moved nextdoor to what is the museum today. My dad drove the Roma truck for decades and I always got something from the bakery when I was with him. The candy/soda store was Lahotahs (spelling?) it was just off the corner of Highland and the other side was Jimmy the barber and the Centre Bar. Burger forever 😎✌️

I’ve been using the Shubb Slide for about six years or so and like it for the occasional slide in some of my tunes and when tuned to open D for the Blues. It’s long enough to cover all six strings on an electric guitar. It’s brass and is a tad heavy but it won’t break you. The plastic ring is comfortable, and the slides swings freely; doesn’t stick when it swivels. Gave one to my guitar tech as a Thank You. I show it to friends and call it my Marital Aid. Recommended.
