That is the Pifaro register, all the early Mortiers have it but it's rarely used, most were replaced by the jazz flute in later years as trends changed, you can see the pipes in the centre at the front above the harmonic flutes, the last book is a Peersman arrangement, it was on Dennis Chappell's 84 key Mortier Orchestrion.

I actually prefer this marenghi to the Sleeman family one,the cymbal is less intrusive on this organ.Its certainly now on par with the gondola gavioli as far as quality goes.
@MechanicalMusicTravels15 күн бұрын
I agree with you there - this is a very "full" sounding 98 whereas the Sleeman organ is much more mellow and compact, given it was converted out of a smaller dance organ. Sadly the "dustbin lid" cymbal somewhat lets it down as well...

I have actually seen this organ in person years ago at an organ gathering at Victoria Park in Widnes once. I can't remember what it was like back then I was only young but I think it was back when it was played on MIDI and according to some vids of it on KZbin which I came across after getting into mechanical music it did not sound as great as it is now! Now it just sounds fantastic!

How fabulous to hear this Marenghi sounding superb after such an extensive restoration. Well done Frank & those involved. I knew this organ & Tom Alberts very well when I lived with my parents in Bolton not far from Bury Road where the organ was housed. I vividly remember putting books through the keyframe & had favourites like Marching Along Together, or the Warbler's Serenade. I wonder if these are the same actual books or recuts. In Tom Alberts time I remember Frank buying new books for the organ now & then. How generous Frank is, one I remember he brought round was Red Roses for a Blue Lady. Tom was very grateful. Hard to believe it will be 50 years ago in October when Tom died. It must make Frank the longest owner of the instrument by far.
@PeterMackett15 күн бұрын
They are the same books that you remember, i used to look after it for Frank at Dorset, still retains all the original repertoire from the Tom Albert days.
@MICHAELWEBBER-cu5eu13 күн бұрын
@@PeterMackett Back in 1975 I was told by the old guys that helped Tom Alberts the music books stored upstairs at Bury Road, Philip Alberts sold to The Whites Gavioli Team. I wonder if Frank was able to get them back. Perhaps those old guys were mistaken but knowing Philip Alberts I have always believed what I was told. I do have lists of the music books, it would be interesting to compare. Only a small amount of the music books travelled in the organ truck. It was a desperate situation at Bury Road. Vandalism & theft was unbelievable. There was a few fairground organs stored at bury Road that were just smashed up. Music Books 89 & 98 key scales were thrown out of windows into trees. I did save some of these but the weather was not kind to them.
