Susan is 11 here ! Geez what a performance ! They were absolutely Beatles level here, but could never be taken seriously as a family group with mom and kid in it. That's a damn shame. If Bill could have stayed, they would have certainly had a couple more songs in the Top 40 hit charts.

Interesting video. The Cowsills quickly turned into some sort of a lounge act when Billy left the band. One could see from performances like this one on the Barbara McNair show that their demise was quickly inevitable.

Far out and groovy baby, that first song transported me back to 1979 when I had the lead role in the school production of Oliver....btw who knew Hef was going to be outed a serial sexual predator after his death (Everybody).

The Cowsills had a beautiful acoustic sound as well. Not too many groups could change over like that and still be a credible contender in rock. I do wonder if Peter, Paul and Mary were aware of them covering their songs. I’m sure they would have approved as The Cowsills made both songs sound great. As to the missing bow tie? The tie he was wearing might not have matched the others, but it is still considered a piece of formal neckwear. It’s called a Continental tie and was popular for roughly 18 months in the mid-60’s.

Their music is so good and (dare I say?) mucho better than a lot of the stuff coming down the radio waves today. Despite what was going on off stage, they were consummate professionals on stage, right down to their dress. In fact, I wish that I could find a couple of tuxedo shirts like the guys were wearing in this video and the one that Revolvy did. Class act all they way.

One of the most bizarre clips from a very bizarre era, right up there with John Lennon co-hosting the Mike Douglas Show a few years later. I love "Two by Two", and Susan's always fun to see and hear. People that like her here should really check out some of her band's live clips from the early 2000's - she had become a really good singer/songwriter, probably the most talented of the bunch, though Barry had some great later stuff too. And if you don't know their full story, check out the Family Band documentary.

Nice that Mrs. Cowsill got a couple of solo lines here, as we didn't often get to hear her voice alone. She had a beautiful voice.

I can see the impetus for the Partridge Family with these guys but I dunno. Yes these guys actually play their instruments and sing so I guess for a few reasons I'd prefer them to the Partridges but they didn't have their blow dried, Teen Beat ,perfectly coiffed feather haired sectet weapon. We did get a 40 year old midget and a beautiful slinky blue eyed goddess as a bonus who lip synched their way into the hearts of America so you can see why people settled for the ladder. ❤

I never knew that The Cowsills performed at the Playboy Mansion. Why their mother would expose them to a total creep like Hugh Hefner is just another prime example at just how poorly managed The Cowsills were. When I saw them in the early 1970's, they were playing on a tiny stage at a Six Flags amusement park in a small venue that didn't have seats----only a few picnic tables! There was a proper concert venue at this park, but The Banana Splits were headlining a concert at the same time. The Banana Splits!

The Cowsills never performed at the Playboy Mansion. In fact, there was no Playboy Mansion in LA until 1975. This show was taped on a sound stage in 1970 and at that time Playboy was still in Chicago.
