Using electricity to heat the blade shows a fundamental misunderstanding of why the ice melts in the first place. The T Blades just increase the heat conductivity of the blade edge to increase melting with a different metal. Why not just run heat pipes from the sole of the skate down through the runner and against the blades? I'm assuming any significant increase in the melting of the ice actually becomes counterproductive.

My brother’s high school team wore the long cooper-alls for a season. Those were pretty crazy. I used the short ones for years and preferred them to traditional pants.

My great uncle played goalie high school and college hockey in the late 70s-early 80s and instead of used a welding helmet as a goalie mask

I can't believe goalies didn't wear masks. Anyone who has played hockey knows the puck is vulcanized rubber that is frozen. It freaking hurts

I’m more of a football guy myself, but I gotta be honest. Hockey is pretty damn cool and probably requires more mental and physical toughness than any other team sport.

Brought up as a standup Goalie in the 70s , Bernie Parent was my Guy so I found it fascinating how much the equipment has changed once everyone went to the butterfly sometime around 2000 . I still prefer the look of a Goalie making a skate save split with the Old School equipment ! 😊

Tony Esposito of the Blackhawks ....fabricated some netting just below his crotch till they caught him...he was a real innovator, taking GlenHall's butterfly to the next level, then Roy from the HABS, took it even further...great work, thank you...

the fact that cage helmet combos were the way to go in Europe from early on explains why for the longest time I only knew of the old school hokey masks from popculture as either horror movie or bank robbing accessories.

I also remember Bauer Supremes with somhow "uneven" blades. standard width up to front third and little narrower to the back. wonder how it worked... it must had been a little challenging to sharpen them...

To many false claims here. #1 the earliest mask was worn by a forward, as he had been hit in the face to often ,Montreal maroons #2 Originally goalies has 2 blockers #3 the 2 goalie gloves used by Bill Durham only worker due to the small pocket size and its similarity to a blocker. No Goalie gloves in the 30s until 1940 ,thats when the goalie glove was used in a NHL game,The Rangers won the Stanly cup ! The development of Goalie equipment was not behind!!! It was in development, not a chicken or egg situation. Todays pads are so light and big thats why the Glen hall technique works today . Do your research. I have a original goalie glove !

6:35 If I remember correctly, Plante got a TON of backlash because he wore the mask. The audience called him a coward and even the manager practically begged him to stop wearing the mask. Once he finally caved in and stopped wearing the mask, they lost like 5 games in a row (number pulled out of thin air, hockey historians will correct me) The manager then let him wear the mask again.

If a goalie can't wear white pads, then players shouldn't be allowed to use black tape on the blades of their sticks because it hides the puck.

There we goalie that wore larger jerseys and had webbing stitched under the arms to catch pucks as well as between their legs for the same purpose. Arthur's irbe tried to get around the pad measurement rules but having extra squishy pads. They conformed to height and width pre game but during play they flattened out to a few inches larger

I've used both the reebok o-stick (pro stock) and the thermal skate blades. The o-stick really wasn't that great; maybe because I was using a higher flex than I normally used and it was a nhl d-man's big heel curve I couldn't adjust to. Ended up giving it away. The thermal blades did work- you could see the snow melting off right away when you got to the bench. They actually had a very faint on light you could see through the white of the holder. It seemed like it made gliding slightly smoother, especially when the ice was chewed up. But you had to charge them for a few hours beforehand and a very faint added weight. I ended up losing a piece of hardware that kept the blade attached and the company had gone out of business at that point, so there was no way to repair/replace them. Almost, kinda worth the $100, but probably wouldn't have bought them again even if they were available.

I am the inventor of the B Reebok O hockey stick. I tookthe concept from Prince tennis racquets who at the time had a similar idea in theory racquets. I went to my stick factory in Zhuhai with my idea that Reebok was also working with and they brought my idea to Reebok. I don’t blame Reebok, as they how no clue the factory stole my idea. I do blame myself for being so naive that in the hockey business everyone was ethical.
