You were talking about his "wall of sound".... it seemed to me that he did not have any one voice obviously singing melody with harmony around it. He sounded as though every voice was equal, and maybe passing the melody from voice to voice, none of them holding it for very long. He did something similar when he did God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.

It seems to be that they got inspiration from the BTS Butter Hotter version, where the members are doing sily things in the background. :) I love Voice Play's humor for the song!

Imagine was shot in a private residence which was available to rent as Geoff liked the white room so he could mimic Lennon's video. The grand piano is just a shell into which Geoff plugged his keyboard. Geoff does love to use discord in his arrangements, just as he likes to go from simple to complex as the song goes along.

Yeah! The "Hey y'all!" Geoff often does in his end credits, came to my mind, too when he said "..y'all's neighbourhood". 😄 And like to say, the narrator in the Original was Vincent Price. Here it is "Geoff Priceless".😄

I like the ominous instead of evil way of describing the narration. I felt it is because the narrators approached it differently. Vincent approached it as an actor would. More just straight spoken than anything. Geoff approached it as a singer would. More connection of tone.

And Geoff's had more of a rhythm to it, as if by the music measure with pauses to make it fit.

Geoff and VoicePlay often do "word painting" in their covers. aka letting the music literally do what the text says. in this case they stopped the word "stops", lol 😄
@hwyla441629 күн бұрын
That and the way the background vocals only sing half the of the word paralyzed, stopping midway, just as Cesar freezes, hand up. I love that bit!
@embran848629 күн бұрын
Two reasons I think J. None. skipped the ¨Stop¨: 1. Because right before the ¨almost stops your heart¨ the beating heart sound begins referencing the heart pounding because of anxiety and adrenaline. 2. No zombies in sight in this version...yet.

This cover has been in the works for several years, with Omar Cardona the original choice for collaborator, but they couldn't make the schedules work out. It was Kathy's idea, during setup for the shoot, to have Layne kick "her" away. The doll Layne kicks resembles Kathy's character thanks to Rick Underwood's magic and is from Spirit Halloween. They call her Greta the Gruesome (actually, she's Little Greta and Kathy is Big Greta). Fun fact: once he becomes a full-fledged zombie, Geoff never blinks when on screen.

Also, he's never actually all the way down, he's bent backwards at the knees.

Michael Jackson went into the chorus after the first verse in the single, and possibly in the album version (not sure about that.) But in the _Thriller_ video, he strung all the verses together first and only went into the choruses later, when they got to the big group zombie dance sequence. VoicePlay sort of split the difference in this version.
@ZhenYaoYin29 күн бұрын

@hwyla441629 күн бұрын
This was SO fun!!! FYI in your 'description' you have Mykal listed instead of J - I presume as a leftover from "Be Prepared". No idea whether or not that might affect how many views you get - after all you do have J in the title. But I don't really totally understand how key words fit into KZbin algorithms, so I thought I would mention it in case it might make a difference. Wouldn't want you to miss out. A few things I really loved in this - first, the way the background vocals drop out right in the middle of the word 'paralyzed' right as Cesar freezes in frame. Neat play on the words. And then also J's tremulous voice at the door, as if frightened. Lastly - Eli apparently has the best constitution as it takes him the longest to turn 'sick'. And I find it a little funny that Geoff might be turning into a zombie but he still seems a bit vampiric with the way he rises up - shades of previous Halloweens.

This was so much fun! I'm very old so not invested in the Michael Jackson world, but EVERYBODY knows this song. Geoff's arrangement is stellar (duh), but he had a hard time coming up with the video. Their makeup artist/friend, Rick Underwood, came up with the zombie pass along idea, hence he has Creative Concept credit with Geoff. Geoff told him, whatever else you do with the makeup, be sure to put a carrot somewhere on Layne. I think there was carrot shaped smoke in Classical Chaos, I think that was the last carrot we saw.

Such a beautiful, reverent song. Geoff made the casket. Gimli is the center, Durin's folks ghosted in and out at the end, leaving Gimli by himself.
@rhov-anionАй бұрын
Kili's lack of a beard comes from the movie, because he was so young... ONLY 77 years old. Considering dwarves could live to 350, he's practically a teenager. The book actually says he and his brother Fili both had blond beards, but the movie changed it to really play up visual differences between each dwarf. Plus I think Geoff just appreciates NOT having to put on facial hair for one of his shoots, haha!
@MtheHellАй бұрын
Yes, you figured it out. Gimli is a new addition (idea by Kathy, prosthetic nose by Rick Underwood🤥😆), but the other dwarves are the same as in "I see Fire" and "Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold". They all have their "special items": Fili's beard and sword, Thorin's sword and the key to Erebor, Kili has the bow and Bofur the typical beard and a mace.
@Badger77722Ай бұрын
The 4 dwarves from Misty Mountains and I See Fire are all from The Hobbit, this is actually the first appearance of someone from LotR in one of Geoff's videos - and it's Gimli, as you figured out. This scene comes from LotR, The Two Towers, where Gimli is reminiscing about the glory of his people from Durin's day as he stands by Balin's tomb, and he recites the poem in the book that has now been turned into a song. Which is why the other four dwarves appear and disappear out of thin air - these are really their ghosts as Gimli remembers them. From details in the clothing, armor, and especially mustaches and beards, others have figured out who is who. In SoD, from L to R - Fíli, Thorin Oakenshield, Gimli, Kíli, and Bofur. And yes, Kili was (relatively) clean shaven in The Hobbit - he was the archer who fell in love with the Elven woman.

It does have a lot in common with the Misty Mountains song. The Dwarves were essentially diaspora who'd been driven out of at least two major stronghold/kingdoms by the time of The Hobbit. Lonely Mountain was actually the second and lesser of the two, where Durin's heirs retreated after the Balrog drove them out of Moria.

Not the Hobbit. Gimli recites this poem for the Fellowship as they cross through Moria in the first book. The 4 dwarves accompanying Gimli here are ghosts from the Hobbit. Fili and Kili died defending their uncle Thorin at the end of the Hobbit.

Cesar is definitely Ed, but sometimes they have to rearrange/add/subtract stuff due to the practical realities of making it all work in the video. It's unclear whether Layne is supposed to be a surplus hyena (there was a whole army of them by the end in the movie,) or some random warthog who somehow wandered in and enlisted without promptly being eaten. 😆 Disney's propensity for backing up their villains with three-man henchman contingents complicates things when these guys are writing a five-man arrangement.
