Mykal Kilgore was with VoicePlay when it was still known at 4:2Five. The only time you see him with the group since leaving is in their video Just Sing where you have to have the caption on to identify everyone showing up.

Cesar is definitely Ed, but sometimes they have to rearrange/add/subtract stuff due to the practical realities of making it all work in the video. It's unclear whether Layne is supposed to be a surplus hyena (there was a whole army of them by the end in the movie,) or some random warthog who somehow wandered in and enlisted without promptly being eaten. 😆 Disney's propensity for backing up their villains with three-man henchman contingents complicates things when these guys are writing a five-man arrangement.

When VoicePlay has a singer with them who is not a regular member or a former member, they list them as "featuring" not that they are the featured performer.

Thanks for the great reaction. The rap portion was added to take the place off all the talking without breaking the rhythm. Mykal will be in another one later and they plan on featuring him in that one. But he doesn’t have the voice to pull off Scar! You’ve seen Mykal before in their Just Sing. He performed with them when they were still 4 The Love, a barbershop quartet in high school, before they formed 4:2:Five. He has since appeared in Broadway and has had a pretty busy career. I wish there were recordings of when they were still 4 The Love, that barbershop quartet, because it would’ve been so interesting to listen to with two high tenors, Earl still being a part of that group. He and Cesar appeared to hit it off in the behind-the-scenes, probably because they’re both so sassy and dramatic. And doesn’t Cesar do the dimwitted , yet adorable, hyena so well?

The arcade is located in the Oviedo mall near PattyCake Productions and yes, Cesar did cry out as his punch stung his hand. The Spanish version of this song was incredibly popular at the time. The final Spanish line sung by Cesar translates to "total eclipse of the love." Fun Facts about the song: In an interview about the pending Broadway run of his hit musical, "Tanz de Vampire," on Broadway [NOTE: the show was called 'Dance of the Vampire" and was a flop due to changes], the song's composer, Jim Steinman, told Playbill magazine "...with 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' [NOTE: called "Totale Finsternis," or "Total Darkness"]. I was trying to come up with a love song and I remembered I actually wrote that to be a vampire love song. Its original title was 'Vampires in Love' because I was working on a musical of Nosferatu, the other great vampire story. If anyone listens to the lyrics, they're really like vampire lines. It's all about the darkness, the power of darkness and love's place in the dark." He has also said he completed the original "Total Eclipse..." specifically for Bonnie Tyler and her vocal qualities.

Sometimes, like Sleeping in the Cold Below, Rob will do the first draft. When Geoff got it back, then he tweaked it, added some Geoff magic and Voiceplayed with it. Other times, Rob gets sole credit. He is very good, arranges for acapella choirs. This is another one where I realized what the lyrics/song meant because of the way they sang it. They are amazing; I love them like crazy!

Geoff doing Geoff things, arranging those funky, jazzy chords! I really do appreciate the care and nuance he gives to every repeated phrase (they are never entirely the same), and his acute instinct for when to really push the song into a higher gear. His arrangements are always ear candy. Not to downplay the actual vocals of the song, which were stunning as they always are. Deejay absolutely shone on lead, and both Eli and Cesar's turns in the spotlight were soulful and beautifully raw, and it's always a delight to hear Layne sing even a line, let alone half the song. But I think it was the arrangement that really sold me hard on this one. The more I listen, the more I hear.
