How could this have killed the video, which was intended from start to demonstrate this particular charachteristic of the LX5??? By the way, as I have commented later on, I have found the way to make those dreaded streaks disappear - watch my video "Christmas Yachts 2010. San Rafael, CA". So, gotDesign... life ain't so terrible after all, hah?... ;)))))

Just change the F-stop settings to counter the light issue.

Expensive CCD powered cameras had really problem in low-light situations . Compact and cheaper cameras with BSI-Cmos sensors nowadays are better and can capture lowlight videos naturally and beautifully with less noise.

@hmmmX3 Oh well, I presume if there's a very strong point of light on the relatively dark background during the day time, this also might come as a problem, but I haven't encountered such a situation...

@vwlover94 You mean: Ai mode? No, that mode doesn't help with streaking problem.

I heard that PROGRAME AE video mode, you can reduce the streaking problem, goodl luck :)

The vertical lines are called sensor bloom.

@piyaji840 - Take a look at Canon PowerShot ELPH 100 HS 12.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 4X Optical Zoom - it's under 200 bucks and takes 1080 HD videos. There ain't much to know to be able to work with this point-and-shoot, just use automatic settings...

Thanks a zillion for the advice ; received the camera yesterday and ready to break into pieces !!!! You r so right!!! I got no skill for it yet to operate and advantage of this so I have decided to return it . Would u mind recommending a decent P&S????

@piyaji840 - You can use LX5 as a point-and-shoot, but it would be a waste of money, since you are actually paying for the camera, that is capable of many wonderful things, yet you're planning to use it only as a camera you could've bought for the half of the price... Read the manual and take as many photos in various modes, as you want, see what works, whatnot, and most importantly - take a photo classes in your nearby community college. Good luck!

Oops!! well it should arrive any minute I will give it a shot Also thank you very much for the reply. I am an amateur user, but want a decent picture ; neither I like a DSLR nor I know how to use it.. Do you suggest a camera with no user interaction and still get a decent picture.

@piyaji840 - not totally avoid, but reduce to a tolerable level. This camera can do quite a lot for you, but keep in mind, that it requires a thorough familiarity with multiple options, modes and color schemes...

I c by switching to this mode, one can avoid those vertical lines !!! Thanks pal well done Just ordered mine from Amazon

@W78516: It's absolutely essential to listen to weathermen and weatherwomen, 'cause these folks need a job! On the other hand, wildlife has a distinct advantage over TV and radio people - in its predictions it doesn't rely on viewers' ratings...

I have found the way to overcome vertical streaks working with this camera: you ought to user not the "iA" mode, but the night scene mode, and everything works just fine. You can watch results in my video "Christmas Yachts 2010. San Rafael, CA", shot in Night Scene mode.

It´s such a nice camera, but the vertical light bars kills it for me. And the s95, whose low light capabilities are top notch, has no autofocus/zoom while shooting video. Bah!
