Hi. It depends on what quality your decal is made of. There are decals that are rated to be outdoors and some for indoors. Ones made for outdoors will be fine in the rain. Most outdoor decals last around 3-6 years depending on where you place the decal and where you park your car.

Just an observation but I've just bought a Golf TCR & the decals on the bottom of the rear doors are missing. I've obtained them. Ive applied a lot of decals on Motorcycles and always in the past used to wet the Decal face & panel with a light soap/water mix. Then move it in position. Once happy, Squeegee over the Decal to remove any excess water/bubbles, Then peel off the holding sheet. Is that not done anymore?

Hi, wet application is definitely still used and a great method, especially for larger decals that have less room for error. It does however, work better with a paper transfer tape rather than a clear plastic one since the water can soak through the paper better. The one in this video is a dry method that can work with any type of transfer tape and easier for the average person to apply smaller decals. It’s a matter of preference, experience, and material. If you’re comfortable with wet application, you should continue with that method.

@@xplaunch Hi thanks for that, Appreciate it. I was going to do it today but as you say, Conditions need to be right and Today is a) A bit too breezy & too warm. I think I'll get the Car in the Garage after moving the other one out & do it with the door closed. Bizzarely, Seen as the Decal length is only about 9 inches there is at least as much material again either side. I couldn't believe it when I collected them from the Dealers.

Hi, most small bubbles, yes, they will go away. But bigger bubbles, you can "pop" them. Poke a small hole in the side of the bubble and press into it to push the air out. It won't be perfect but it won't be noticeable.

Hi, oracal 651 or 751. Blue backing only comes with the white decal. I personally like to use 751 because it's cast vinyl and higher grade. It's slightly more expensive but I've seen the difference on a car that had it on for years.

I likecto use pure isopropyl alcohol like type you get at hardware stores. Rubbing alcohol has a small amount of oil in it. Good strong ammonia works fine for glass too.

This same brand now has a wagon at Costco that is more heavy-duty with thicker wheels. Go check out the one at Costco if you have one near you. Item# 1654593. Not sure how long it'll stay at Costco. Hi. Yes, you can with a soap solution. But it’s only recommended with a paper transfer tape. Not the clear plastic one like you see in this video. I would only use a wet application for big solid decals that has a higher chance of bubbling or creasing.

I applied a retro decal to my Mopar and screwed it up. Then when it went into the wash bay, part of it tore off. So, i ordered another set and figured i'd take more caution this time around. This video is exactly what i needed.

CORRECTION: To be more specific about the alcohol I used to clean, it's 70%-90% isopropyl alcohol. The inactive ingredient on the label should be just water. On some decals, do you remove the clear side and the decal is stuck to the paper tape portion? That's how the one I've got is and I'm trying to figure out how to install it.

Hi, If the decal is die-cut, meaning it's not just 1 solid piece that you can peel and stick, then it's supposed to be stuck onto the clear or masking tape-looking part (called the transfer tape). That's how you transfer it over without it losing its positioning. If the decal didn't stick to the clear when you pulled it off, refer to my section earlier in the video about it not sticking to the transfer tape. It may be possible to get it to stick to the clear again but it may take a lot of effort. You might have to use your fingernails to gently scrap the edge of each decal piece so it starts to come off and stick to the transfer tape.

Hi. You can warm the surface a little before applying. But I wouldn’t directly warm the decal (although you can, I don't think it's necessary for this application. Usually warming the decal itself will make it softer for applying around edges or rivets, etc. It can also stretch the decal if you're not sure what you're doing). As long as the surface isn’t super cold, just cool is fine.

Yes, there are some. If the decal covers more surface area, for example like a big solid circle or like car wraps, the chances are higher for bigger air bubbles and creasing. Then wet application can help remove any air bubbles that may otherwise be too big to go away on its own. For wet applications, a paper transfer tape is better than a vinyl transfer tape.

@@xplaunch thank you for the info! I have an 8”x8” square QR code to apply to a truck window and I butchered it last time. Was thinking about applying it wet this time but then luckily came across your video and definitely will use the hinge method. Thinking maybe combining those two approaches may work well for me this time around.

@@AdamTrimmer For something smaller like what you're doing, the hinge will work fine. If you see smaller air bubbles, those will go away on their own in a few weeks. Bigger air bubbles (1/4 inch or bigger) can be "popped" with a needle. You just poke a small hole into the side of the bubble and press down into it to push the air out. The hole won't be noticeable once you push it down. But you'd have to do this right away before the adhesive settles. If you do decide to go the wet route, just make sure the transfer paper is paper and not the clear vinyl as I have in this video. That will make it a lot easier.

Hi, I'm currently using a Roland GS-24. But I can't say I'm happy with it. I did have a 48" Summa plotter briefly that was able to do perforated cuts that I liked better. But I didn't work with it long enough to have a solid opinion about it either.

What if you tried to squeegee the back of the sticker like he showed but the sticker isn’t still sticking to the transfer tape?

Hi. Turn the decal face down onto the table and press down with finger pressure to try and get a little bit to stick at a time. You can even use your fingernails to hold down any small edges so the rest will stick. If the transfer tape is weak, you may need to just completely peel off the backing paper once the decal is on it before applying since you’ll have issues getting it to stick again. This will make the application trickier but doable. You can still hinge it by using a section of the transfer tape that the decal isn’t on to stick and align first. Just don’t accidentally let the decal touch the surface until you’re sure of the position. Another option is the wet method of using a small amount of dish soap and water in a spray bottle to slide it around into position. I hope this helps.

Small ones will usually go away. Big ones, big being a quarter inch or bigger, can be popped with a needle. Just poke a small hole in the side and push down into it so it doesn't crease. Hope this helps!
