@SamLoose thanks man! I might start doing this for the reasons you mentioned. A little easier to work with audio you can see better. Also nice to have the faders more consistent. I can see why one would do this for sure. Thanks! I'll try to think of more subjects to cover. Oh! Some people think sends to aux tracks don't include the processing on the track being sent. Maybe do a quick vid on how sends are post-insert. I'm definitely doing this one day for a video. Had a big KZbinr try to tell me I must not know how aux tracks work, but that guy is the one who thought inserts didn't also get sent. A simple demo can be done to prove he's incorrect. Send a vocal to a verb on an aux channel. Solo the aux channel. Now bypass and re-enable plugins on the vocal track being sent. You will hear a difference.

Didn't that essentially just quantize the drums using flex time? i've never used a DAW where flex time doesn't screw up cymbal phasing and leave weird (unuseable) artifacts. I need slicing/beat detective type drum editing!

I been using Logic since its inception and had no idea that hovering over the plug-in showed you latency info! Derp. Well spoken, clear and concise video. Plus you’re British and a Sabs fan so that always helps ; )

4:33 This right here was a big one for me, especially in mastering... putting the saturation techniques after compression instead of before made a HUGE difference. Working with audio that sounds "comfortable" and not pushed, yet still has clarity and dynamics aids techniques like saturation. Night and day difference! Also love the tip about mixing with ears; I'll often close my eyes and just sit when producing/mixing as the session is running, lol.

Hovering over the plugin does not work for me. All it shows is the name of the plugin. Is there a setting somewhere for this?
@SamLoose
@SamLoose 6 күн бұрын
Usually that’s because the plugin isn’t creating any latency. Is this a logic stock plugin?
@jeffweber521
@jeffweber521 6 күн бұрын
@@SamLoose It's not a stock plugin but I tried hovering over some of the other plugins in my project and now I see it's displaying latency for some of those. So it looks like you're right. It doesn't display anything if the plugin has no latency. Thanks🙂

Can you elaborate on "normalizing gains"?
@SamLoose
@SamLoose 7 күн бұрын
Set all tracks to the same peak level. In most (probably all) DAWs there’s a function to normalize all tracks to a peak of -3dB, or something similar. Or to a given RMS. Perhaps that’s worth its own video 😀

For me it’s so there’s no confusion about which is which. If it says “OH Left” I can’t be 100% sure if that’s audience perspective or drummer perspective unless I have session notes. It’s just something that has always stuck with me. Kinda goes out the window with a left handed drummer though…Thanks for watching!

I can't believe I'm just now discovering this, thank you!!! I just tried it on a metal track with 5 different guitars, where I spent HOURS aligning those bad performances (and I was doing the whole album). It worked so great even with fast tempo for metal music. DAAAM this would save me so much time doing this repetitive boring tasks! There were only few misaligned picks, easy fix, apart from that it was amazing.

This video is one of the best explanation of the internal sidechain function of a compressor. I have a question about sidechaining. Do you usually multiband sidechain (e.g. with Pro-MB or Neutron Compressor or C6) your kick drum to the bass guitar?
@SamLoose
@SamLoose 15 күн бұрын
I appreciate that ✌️ I usually favour dynamic EQ over multiband compression on a sidechain, but that’s not to say it’s a rule, just my personal preference.
