I've seen Robben and Beck, and I'm going to see Robben in Holmfirth next year. Robben was unreal (as was Beck), but Robben really was something else. I would say that probably the only more impressive player I've seen was Allan Holdsworth impressed me more. No comes close to Holdsworth of course.

There’s actually one player who is universally recognized as a most formidable player of Beck’s caliber. Checkout Scott Henderson formerly the known leader of the group, Tribal Tech. Regards

Robben has been in a kind of Renaissance for roughly 8 to 9 years. He has been challenging himself to stretch out sonically, compositionally and personally. It has proven to be a happy surprise for someone who (like myself) has been listening to him play since 1974 with the LA Express, Joni. And this is one of the many occasions where I have seen him play with such absolute top notch players (Darryl Jones Bass, Gary Husband drums and Larry Goldings keyboards). If more patrons of music were actually MUSICAL people, Robben Ford would be a household name. True.
@lusighfer20 күн бұрын
If only more people knew Robben's playing and history intimately. One of the most inspired players in history.
@Babassecretchannel18 күн бұрын
To me it seems the opposite in terms of Robben taking it up a notch. His recent albums are far from being as innovative that the Blue Line albums both in terms of composition and playing.

Tone on loan from God.
@WolfgangHuber-t8d22 күн бұрын
I still think that music is purely a matter of taste. One can attribute to him an extraordinary virtuosity. And Jeff Beck is certainly one of the guitarists in this class. But composing music is more important to me now. and in that respect I prefer other guitarists. The tone itself is its own criterion for me. Jeff Beck was a tonal chameleon and knew how to conjure up every nuance, no matter how clownish and funny, out of the instrument. But not music from a single source in which playing technique, composition and message were expressed in a personal style that had continuity, like Hendrix or Clapton.
@danoloane19 күн бұрын
Just the opposite. Jeff Beck’s tone is the most unique and identifiable in the rock guitar era. Honed by 70 years of playing, and improving. I agree that he wasn’t a great songwriter- but I completely disagree that he ever played a clownish note. Clapton was over as a guitarist after Derek and the Dominoes. Jimi Hendrix is for 14 year olds. Jeff Beck got better and better up until the minute he died. I think you’re a clown.

@@johnwilson1997 nothing remotely hyperbolic about my comment and definitely not insulting to an artist (rf) I’ve supported and followed for decades including the Joni , yellow jackets and blue line periods and I’ve travelled far and wide to see him perform. @ c’mon mate! How long have you been playing? All guitarists compete with each other. It is natural. The natural urge to be better than the next guy, especially at that level. Otherwise, what’s the point, just plagiarising every note? IMHO that is. I have 50+ years of playing gigs under my belt. Roy Buchanan and Danny Gatton were perfect examples. They tried to emulate and outdo each other. As long as respect is maintained, it is good healthy competition.

"Nunca usó una púa para empezar" no resulta ser cierto, digmos que Jeff tocó con púa durante décadas, fue conformando un estilo único de tocar la guitarra que incluyó tocar las cuerdas con los dedos. Abundan los conciertos en donde se lo ve usando púa, asi como tocando Gibson, recuerdo una Les Paul negra, aunque para su "sonido" Fender resultó se el instrumento adecuado.
