Do you have a link for the tabs? Also, first tutorial where it sounds identical to the recording

Same, I’ve always found the 4 finger G chord to be too muddy with the 5th string. It sounds much cleaner and actually fuller without it, yes, technically it’s not a proper G chord but it sounds right and works for almost all songs.

I’ve just started learning on an acoustic, but trying to do the hard yards now before eventually switching over to electric. Originally a piano player, and switching from weighted keys to non weighted feels like you glide across the keys, so anticipating something similar - learning on a instrument requiring heavier fingering is a tougher start, but well worth it in the long run. I’ve been playing for about two weeks, and definitely prefer improving lead over strumming chords (although may be influenced by not being able to switch between shapes easily, versus general lead playing which I can play just by ear)

Great video. I have found that the drop C# tuning works well, as that stretch from 4 to 1 fret is tough - dropping in full helps keep things together on the left hand. But I really admire your teaching style and appreciate you taking the time to make this lesson. God bless.

Or, hear me out (and I'm saying this as a musician that runs into this often). When we write record and release music, our intentions aren't to make sure people can play along with it in tune. Some people (this isn't the case here) still use non A440 reference tones. I was listening to some solo classical piano recently and couldn't help notice that the piano wasn't in tune with mine, but soon realized they were using A=435 which is the old French standard

Instead of tuning up and running the risk of snapping the high e-string, you can use a short cut partial capo at the first string, first fret. 😊

Diagrams are always nice. I don't understand how anyone could make a "do this on guitar" video this day and age then *not* put a diagram of what they are doing on screen. Don't worry, you are not nearly the only one who fails to do this. Other than that its an informative video but it wouldn't take but a minute to include a diagram.

Problem is people need to learn their intervals and major scale to even know these relatively simple shapes but guitar is a cruel mistress to learn music theory

Solid lesson! Any ways to keep these same guidelines but make it more advanced? I suppose just using more colourful chords is the way
@kylescott47 күн бұрын
Yes more complex chords would probably be the best way to do it. Or you could add hammer ons and pull off notes within your chords, that’s another nice addition

My favorite D is just taking the regular shape you began with, except instead of the 3rd fret on the B string, make it the 2nd fret. I believe that makes it one way to do D major 7
