That happened actually in Richmond,Ky against Eastern Kentucky U.+Coach Roy Kidd in the opening game of the 1976 season for Wittenberg. The ballgame was a no-contest competitive wise. The guy who returned the opening kickoff was a guy named Elmo Boyd, who later played for the Chicago Bears.

Oh, okay. See, I was thinking that they weren’t going to come right out and say that they are gearing the entirety of Wittenberg’s resources towards advancing the athletics division, even at the cost of everything else, but... here we are, I suppose.

Listening to James Rebhorn as he reflects accurately in a Wittenberg video on "The Power of a liberal arts education" my experience at Wittenberg University.mirrors his. I attended Wittenberg wanting to become a Lutheran minister. After 34 years as a Lutheran pastor I am retired. I loved Mr. Rebhorn's comment that Wittenberg gave him the capacity to remain interested. That was and is my experience as well. Whether I was researching and writing a sermon, teaching a class, or visiting the sick and the dying I was informed by the teaching of my professors in the mid 1970s No rocking chair retirement for me. My liberal arts education continues to inform me and gives me that capacity to inquire and critique the world around me. One of the first things I do each morning is make me a cup of coffee and sit down and read the paper and I want to add that I am stronger in my Christian faith, thanks to the professors at Wittenberg.

He was great as GUIDING LIGHT's Bradley Raines--I think he should have won Best Supporting Actor in 1983--just as Judi Evans [who played his stepdaughter Beth Raines] won Best Supporting Actress that year. I recently saw James Rebhorn in one of his last roles from THE ODD LIFE OF TIMOTHY GREEN & I own three films he was in--LORENZO'S OIL, MEET THE PARENTS & REGARDING HENRY. Every time I see him on TV or in movies, I wait to hear "kiddo" but I never do. Just as well, they'd have to scrape me off the ceiling. My heart aches for James Rebhorn, his wife, daughters & family.

Hello, I graduated from Wittenberg 1973--was in three classes and one play with Jim Rebhorn--and I can tell you, this is the best guy in the world--an absolute peach of a human being, and you can trust whatever he has to say. That said--a student should pick the school that fits best the goals she or he identifies. None is perfect, and none is horrible, I would guess. All the best to my WU friends, Mike Crane Wallace
