I have been looking at the Warwick xl but I find that the drivers seat won’t go back far enough. I am 6ft so I wouldn’t have expected it to be an issue. How do you fine it?
@WolfiesWheels
@WolfiesWheels 8 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated. As I recall things, the Warwick XL has the bathroom behind the drivers seat which would prevent the seat going back very far. So with the Kinghams layout, I would imagine the seat would go back further, certainly at 5’9” I can have the seat so far back I wouldn’t be able to drive. On that basis, it would probably be fine for someone who is 6’. There is however a BUT… The drivers seat on the Kingham swivels so as is usual with these seats, they sit a bit higher than the non spinning version. Given the bathroom position in the Warwick XL I would think the drivers seat doesn’t spin and is therefore set lower. I find that unless the seat is in exactly the right position, my right knee can catch on the ignition key, not a problem re accidentally turning the van off, more that in the event of an accident it is likely to go through my right knee…so my point is, that although the seat might well go back far enough, as it sits probably an inch higher than the non spinning counterpart, you might find other issues. I think the only way to find out is to go and sit in one to see… Hope this helps in some small way, sorry I can’t give a definitive response. Wolfie.

What is the turning circle like on it please ?
@WolfiesWheels
@WolfiesWheels 13 күн бұрын
From driving the van, the turning circle seems to be very good indeed. The brochure suggests a turning circle between kerbs of 14.24m or 46.7 feet which seems a lot to me. But compared with a Mercedes Sprinter, this has a turning circle of 16.2m or 53 feet so I'm guessing the brochure figures are right. All I know is that its very good and no problem in use! Hope this helps.

Hello Wolfie 🙋‍♂️. Hope you and Mrs W are good 💃🕺!! Thanks for answering the points I asked you about in a previous mail. It was very much appreciated !! What did I get from it ?? I think 🤔 like you; in that: I do like some structured meaning to my day, especially if driving in a “foreign” Country !! The cynical 🤨 side of me - also was thinking 💭 “what you covered” that the brochures (Tour Guides) that you received prior to heading off - still has “very good” value on the ”second hand” front as these are of value to someone who is keen, however, does not want to fork out the expense of going with a tour !! That said: I would prefer and probably try one tour - understand how is works, and from there use the information gained and tour different parts of the same Country further on down the line !! Also - if you did become friends with the other people on the tours - you could “swap” the guides to make the tour less expensive that they have already been on !! I like the idea of getting the choice of staying at one campsite for a few days - then meeting up later at a different campsite - (jumping) perhaps two campsites that the others went to first, and - should you do a similar tour (privately) you just visit the sites you missed out the last time !! All the information you get from the Tour Company that provides information on; IE:Crit' sticker, vignette sticker, ect ect is a definite winner !! Takes out the stress and hassle !! Thanks 🙏 James 🫶❤️

If I bought a brand new campervan/mobile home/caravan and there was obvious issues and problems immediately after buying it I would question the dealer ( if a p.d.i was paid for) wether the p.d.i had not been done ( surely that's fraud) or if it had then has it been done incompetently. Call me sceptical but if a free night(s) is offered then I guess that is so the customer does the fault ( pdi ) finding.

Great informative video, thanks. Would you recommend Autosleeper regarding build quality and comfort?
@WolfiesWheels
@WolfiesWheels Ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and kind comment. As regards recommending, there are definitely some quality issues with the build of the Kingham, many of which are no more than minor annoyances as opposed to things not working properly. For example, the drawer fronts in the kitchen could do with being 5mm bigger all round and that would hide the edge of the opening (from certain angles the drawer fronts look too small to cover the aperture). So this to me is poor build quality, all AS of this age are like it but good QC would have picked this up. Things that have failed have been third party items so could happen on any van that uses the same supplier (there are many MH manufacturers but relatively few suppliers so they all seem to use one of two or three companies components such as fridges, handles, hinges etc). Comfort wise we don’t have any issues with the Kingham. Bed is very comfortable, as is settee and driving seat whether in driving position or spun round as chairs. Being hyper critical it would be nice if there were armrests on both sides of the front seats, not just the inner side. I think this has been changed on current models, but not 100% sure. Overall, I took the view that there may be better made vans out there, but the Kingham layout was as near to ideal as we could get. I can change anything in the van component wise etc if I didn’t like the quality, and improve other areas. But I can’t change the layout, so the deck on was made. You might want to check out IH, I was very impressed with the quality but sadly the layout wasn’t as good. Hope this helps!

I was there last year and it seemed both better attended but with fewer merchants. One of the problems is that a number of events only came alive at night when there were various well organised Tesla M3 light shows as well as a bar and music- perhaps it should start later and end later? @WolfiesWheels
@WolfiesWheels Ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. I’m not sure the garage space in the Kingham would be ideal if such space is a priority for you. There’s not a lot of height between the van floor and underside of the bed, plus the water boiler lives in the space. And importantly the air intake for the space heater is under there too. We have had the heating turn to fault mode before now when we have put too much stuff in the space and the heater hasn’t been able to get enough air (so goes to safety and switches itself off). Good luck with choosing the new van

I think as a day time layout you can’t beat a U shaped lounge. When we were looking we decided that a fixed bed was a priority though, and at this size of van didn’t come across any fixed bed U shaped lounge layouts. So we compromised U shaped lounge for the single settee and captains chairs - I don’t think there really is a right or wrong answer, more a case of which feature will annoy you least 🤣

How do you communicate with each other whilst driving - are you given a “Walkie Talkie” to communicate with all the other drivers / vans ?? Are there “toilet / coffee” breaks - where you all pull off and meet up for an hour and exchange views ?? Do the people who run the tour give additional advice on cheap petrol ⛽️ prices, best supermarket, ect ect ?? Thanks for the video, just a word of advice with the awning. On the Thule awning you have bracing arms to make it more stable & less noise in the slight wind, they are the silver arms on the main body that pull out and clip in to the rafters then you wind the awning back in a little to tension them. Hi. Not sure if you have a Motorhome at present, but if you do and it is reliable and suits your needs then - unless there is a compelling reason to change it -you’d be better off keeping it ! If you are looking for a motorhome, then to be honest all new motorhomes and campers have issues. For example, we have had two new Hymers before, and both needed warranty work for leaks and corrosion (wheels and internal fittings), so the Kingham issues we had seem to be pretty par for the course. It’s not really good enough, but I’m afraid from my own experience and what I read on various forums, it’s just how things are in the modern cost and corner cutting world. If you are looking for a Kingham, maybe one that’s a couple of years old might suit you as the teething problems we had should have been sorted by the first owner 🤔. Good luck with whatever you end up with 👍🏻

They are very sensible cars. So much so that they make a lot of other cars look there'd be no sense in buying them. A couple of minor points. Have you checked the onboard computer MPG readings against brim to brim calculations to see how accurate it is? Ditto the speedo against a plug-in sat-nav (or some other accurate speed calibration method)? As for electric cars vs diesels. For local journeys around your home, EV's are fantastic. For long trips, eg Scotland to London, recharging is a nightmare for time and cost.
@WolfiesWheels
@WolfiesWheels 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. They are truly superb! I didn’t bother to do the checks you mention as I thought that as long as I was using the same basis for measurement consistently I would be able to spot any upward or downward movements. I no longer have the Superb, but have for the past 3 years run electric cars. I have to say my experience does not reflect your experience/comment on long journeys - although of course it does depend on what car you buy so what charging infrastructure is available to you and at what cost. But I do 100% agree they are not for everyone, I’m no EV evangelist, but they certainly suit our needs..

Thanks! Yes, definitely quieter than a coach built, especially those with the bed over the cab. Quieter than the A class too. But more than this, it is pretty unaffected by buffeting from trucks - makes it much more relaxing to drive. Next episode - how we set up on site, and how long it takes.

@@WolfiesWheels The one we hired was one with a bed over the cab, a fairly entry level Eldis. There was a really nice tandem axle Bessica coach built where we parked up that cost twice as much and the quality looked much better including the cell door as apposed to the one in ours where you could see daylight around it. We were only getting 28mpg at best too. I think a large panel can is probably worth the money really for something slightly more compact but sturdy.

Loving the Videos. We are narrowing down our camper van list, and your videos are so informative about the Kingham. I cannot wait to see how it turns out on this European trip. I was wondering if you knew the internal width of the bathroom. We don’t have a dealership for autosleeper nearby that has stock of a kingham this year, and I just wanted to get an idea of how much room I would have. If you know that would be great 😃😃. Can’t wait for the next Video.

Thanks for the kind comments, much appreciated! The internal dimensions of the bathroom are Height 186 cm throughout the bathroom Max length 110 cm (the tambour door rounds off one end) Shoulder room when stood for a pee 74 cm At sink end, 61 cm wide Max floor width (in front of toilet) 57cm Min floor width 36 cm (in front of sink) Hope this helps, it’s certainly not the biggest bathroom but it’s fine in practice.

Thanks for that. That information is really handy and definitely makes it a top contender 😃. I can’t wait to hear about this adventure and how it turns out.

Perhaps you were thinking of the Nurburgring which is Nurburg (not Nuremburg) 😁 what3words ///conclude.appeals.belfry I strayed at nearby campsite in Koblenz I did a lap in a race taxi, it was memorable PS not the current F1 track which is adjoining but a seperate track.

Exactly right - I’d really hoped to do a lap of the Nordschleife in a Ring Taxi as opposed to the van! I’ll just have to wait for another opportunity and thanks for the heads up re campsite 👍🏻. The site we stayed at was 700m from where the Nuremberg Rallies were held, somewhat sobering in current times.

@@WolfiesWheels Knaus camping park in Nuremberg. Also not far to the court where the trials were held. I once saw a LHD AutoSleeper in Germany but AS are very rare in EU.

Nice to see you back, it seems like it's been a while since I last watched one of your videos. This could be a great little series and van life content certainly seems very popular on KZbin these days. Interesting to hear of your experience of driving habits on the continent, a few years ago when I drove the Mégane coupe through northern France and into Belgium I found the standard of driving etiquette to be very good and the only vehicle being driven badly was another car from the UK when heading back home.

Thanks Mark, it has been quite a while since I put a film out. I think there will be 5 parts or maybe 6 in total. I’ve got all the footage downloaded from the camera and now need to do the editing. Plan will be to release a part a week for the next few weeks 😀. Not part of any film, the worst part of the whole journey was Folkestone to home which took 8 hours to do 270 miles ☹️
