Americans always have been well armed. They lived in the wilderness and mountains teaming with bears, gators , and American Natives . Plus Americans had to police themselves before the British troops showed up.

Who the fuck is the dumbass who said they got all their gun guns from the French who the fuck is the dumb ass?
@roberthohman46373 ай бұрын
When it came to old style gun warfare, the idea wasn't about accurately shooting a vital spot, but your group shooting so many muskets at once that something had to hit somewhere vital on members of the enemy forces. And even if they don't die immeadiately, just making them unable to fight further and become dead weight was a 'win'

Well, it's worth noting that during that war with France, the Colonial militia were front-and-center on the front lines, doing raids and scouting ahead since they knew the terrain, putting themselves at risk as well. So it's not as if they'd just sat back and let the British Army do all the work. Also, many of the weapons and cannons were simply privately owned in the early days of the war. They weren't all the most recent models, but they were serviceable. Others were seized stockpiles or leftovers from the French and Indian War.The French assistance and arms came later in the war.

I think you have a few misunderstandings, partly from the very abbreviated video. First, Goerge Washington was not born in Britain. He was in the British army, the only army that existed in the colonies. Also, there were a lot of people that lived in America, that did come from Britain, but most of the population were born in America. And as time went by, more & more Americans were born in America vs. coming from Britain. Secondly, the Americans did not 'bankrupt the UK over the French Indian war, since most of it was supplied by Americans. Of course, there was some cost by having to ship some British soldiers and weapons over to America to fight the French and Indians. The REAL cost to Britain was the 7 years war in Europe that was between the British and the French, so the Americans did not feel responsible to Britain about recovering their war costs. Thirdly, you seems so surprised that Americans had their own weapons, but there had been manufacturing in America a long time. In addition, populating the entire continent required having guns, for both acquiring food and to fight Indians as well as to ward off dangerous animals. Of course, gun technology at this time still came from Europe, so most American manufactured weapons were of European design. Here are two important points about guns in America at this time: (1) The rifle was introduced a few decades before the American Revolutionary War, and these were mainly used for shooting game at long distances. These were known as Kentucky Rifles, and became fairly important int he revolution. They were used most often as snipers, shooting the British officers, and the British had nothing to shoot back with at such distances. All the other long guns used on both sides were muskets, that had no rifling and were very inaccurate. A lot of the 'minute man' used rifles, or had muskets for general hunting, close range. (2) As a result of guns being needed for existence, and then in the Revolutionary War, gun ownership was easily inserted into the Constitution, and guns continued to be a very everyday necessity thru the entire expansion to the West, which finally ended in the late 1890s, the era of the 'Wild Wild West'. So, to this day, gun ownership is a guaranteed right in America, and about 43% of all American homes own at least one gun.

Taxes is the go-to shallow reason. The real reason was that Britain interfered with the governing of the american colonies. The british would either impose restrict laws, making it difficult for someone in power to do anything, or sent native british governors to administrate the colonies, but even they claimed the laws made it difficult. That's a reason why the british whig party vocally supported the colonies in the british parliament at the time. Note: all the reasons for the revolution are literally in the Declaration of Independence.

The US presidents only serving 2 terms totaling 8 years was a tradition that presidents followed until Franklin Roosevelt in the 1930s and 1940s where he was elected to 4 terms but early in his 4th term he died in office and shortly afterwards Congress made an amendment to the Constitution that limited Presidents to 2 terms or if a vice president took over during after the president died then he can only be elected twice if he took over with less than 2 years left in the previous president's term (so in those cases a maximum of 10 years).
@teaser608911 ай бұрын
Yeah it's a good, but at the same time also bad thing. It helps protect the nation against bad presidents, but genuinely good presidents can only serve two terms.
