This is fantastic to see. It makes me wonder why some BDFB require a temperature spike and others don't. Maybe there are differences based on geographic origin. I'm curious, can you elaborate on where your founder population originated?

I've no idea unfortunately where my first beetles originated.

We have 3 species of Atypus in Hungary: Atypus affinis, Atypus muralis and Atypus piceus. They are not that too rare but also not very common as well.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. You provided a lot of useful informations. Congratulations to your success! I can't wait to start breeding my own beetles. Do the beetles lay the eggs in specific areas, like underneath rocks for example or just visible somewhere on top of the subtrate? I will probably create a second tank just for the eggs and larvae so that I can have an undisturbed display tank.

I've never seen them laying so can't say if they prefer one spot over another.

I'm not scared of spiders, but the thought of 70mm leg span spiders in the UK makes my skin crawl more than just a bit! My misses has arachnophobia, she might just keel over if she saw a large on of these....

I made a video of a huge spider in my house a couple of weeks ago which has a bigger leg span than my hand but don't know what kind it is. I used to think they are wolf spiders but someone said it isn't so can you take a look please and leave a comment with any ideas 💚💛❤️

We found one in our shed probably around the time this was posted! In northern Ireland. We were looking through Google photos and finally searched the image. Crazy!

0 seconds ago A few minutes ago I killed a big one of these spiders 😓😭 I didn't know they were non-venomous. I am a Sri Lankan, now I know that these are against my country... I will never kill a spider like this again !

In 1990 as a 7 year old I saw 2 of these moving with the tide down the Thames. I can't find any data on them being present in the southeast London or Essex area. I know what I saw as a kid I searched all the bug books I could find to look for them. Huge rusty brown spiders with white stripes can only be a Dolomedes of some sort.
