I was so close to going to Costa Rica for canyoneering and diving, but had to cancel due to life issues. This looks absolutely incredible... gotta get it back on the calendar. Also, the video is top notch.

Great video! I have only ever double strand rappelled in a rock climbing context. Anybody in the comments have advice on learning single strand rappels for canyoneering (i.e. natural anchors)? Rock climbers seem to prefer the double strand for ease and safety.
@NClegg
@NClegg 6 ай бұрын
Double and single rope techniques (DRT and SRT) can be used with both natural and unnatural anchors and a variety of rigging configurations. There are pros and cons to each. DRT can certainly be quick and easy, but is often is not the safer option - particularly in a canyoning context. SRT enables compatibility with a variety of modern mechanical ascension devices, introduces the capabilities to set rope length and rig releasable, can increase efficiency by allowing simultaneous rappels on individual strands of the same rope, and maintains more rope at the anchor where it is usable for a variety of applications such as top-belay or rescue. If you're local to Arizona and interested in canyon-specific training, I recommend checking out AZ Rock & Canyon: www.azrockandcanyon.com/#intro

Nice job continuing to fill in the gaps and for documenting so many verde sections on packraft. That's what the exploration is about, moving thru all variables, be it brush or rapids. The diversity of verde along its 175 to 200 miles makes it one of the most unique waterways of its length I have ever paddled personally west of the miss

Great fun video, nicely made.... glad that final sequence is now bolted as lots of packrafters interested and too many anchors washing away in flash floods there, not ideal for sandtrap and not many rocks to farm there either. This upper bit of river below dam.... seems to be world class fishing up in there too. I would love to spend an overnight at one of the rivercamps coming out if I do this canyon again.

What road do you take to exit at Chasm Creek? Fossil Creek road down through Cottonwood Basin?
@NClegg
@NClegg 8 ай бұрын
No. Chasm confluence is further down, on river right. We hiked out the canyon to forest service roads and followed them back to Beasley (about 5 miles).

Cool to see you run the last channel on off the wall. Never used to be possible at low flows, something changed! I noticed it last time but didn't want to risk tearing the Refuge on a hidden branch

If you look up on Google the CFS of a river/creek and go to the United States Geological survey, they will have all of the information about water levels and CFS. Some creeks do not have water gages.
