I appreciate your video. It's the first time doing valves. You kept short but very informative

My rocker is stuck open. I pushed it over and now it won't go back. How do you close it?

You have to loosen the valve rockers and use the feeler gauge to set the lash

Hey man. You still around? I got a question. I’ve had to lower the shim size on the exhaust side like yours, 4 times this year. Why is this happening?

Great video well done thank you! Question: My plug is fouling and I’ve adjusted the carb don’t think it to rich. Also did a compression test. and I get 140psi then added a little oil and got 190psi. I first assumed rings were bad but I haven’t checked valve lash. I will but wondering if improper valve lash could cause this compression variation or since adding oil to better seal the rings mean for sure the rings are bad Irrespective of valve lash?

My 20-year-old Ruckus was running poorly and was so challenging to start, if I could even get it started. Watched your 2 related videos twice and went out and adjusted the intake valve (which had zero lash) by doing the math, then checking the clearance as you perfectly laid out, the exhaust valve clearance was good. The moment of truth came and it started instantly! I've been starting it all day with a 1/2 second touch of the starter button. It now runs great too. Many thanks for your help!

*My '08 'Metro' starts and runs flawlessly at 13,800-miles* _________ *Should I check the valves?* ( *I may as well order the shim-kit in advance of any take-down and yet the engine runs perfect and will haul my 230lb. fat-ass at 42-mph with only minor performance parts & 14-inch windscreen to create 'smoother air-flow' at 'WOT' speeds* ) __________ *I've owned and ridden this machine for 65-months and it still starts instantly and idles perfect and I use only the highest octane I can get...usually 92-93, plus a spoonful of 'Octane Booster' on a full tank and full-synthetic 10-40 engine oil* *I have yet to ever see anything in the 'crankcase breather tube'*

Thanks for making an awesome video. Bought a metro that wasn't running and tried all the basic things first. Someone said valve lash and I had never done it before. Found this video and made it super easy. Thanks!!!

Wow, thank you sir. I was going crazy trying to figure out why my metro was so hard to start. Cleaned the carb multiple times, changed the bystarter and same issue. Had a feeling it was the valves, watched your videos and was certain. Went to my metro checked the lash and bam an hour later after doing the shims, it starts first kick now.

I have no clearance on the intake and its a 2020 with 200 miles, not even .002 of an inch, how could this have happened? I don't think I have a feeler small enough to get between the rocker and the shim, its top dead center as verified by pulling spark plug and touching screw driver to piston through the hole, I guess I am ordering the kit but something seems off here. My shim says 2.02 on the intake and a 1.98 on the exhaust. Couldn't get any clearance on the intake and the exhaust I forced a .005 feeler in there, ordering shim kit.

What causes the gap to tighten/ close? I just replaced my shims on a Honda Ruckus a 6 weeks ago and they are tight again. What happens when the gap gets so small that there aren't small enough shims left? Thanks for your time.

Great vids, have to adjust my valves so I’ll def be watching again. Odd question but is there no gasket on the valve cover head?
@areomyst
@areomyst 3 жыл бұрын
It's not an odd question at all. There is a gasket yes. It's kind of like a big o-ring that fits on the valve cover and it should be replaced. You can reuse the old on in a pinch - but if I were to update this video I'd include proper gaskets! The part number for the gasket is 12391-GET-000. There is also an o-ring to replace, part number 91304-HA5-003. Thank you for you comment Dawaka. Ciao!

Thank you for the video. What I did was take the shim out and taped a piece of 800 grit sandpaper to a piece of glass and sanded it down instead of buying a entire shim kit. worked perfectly and I measured it to .004 It took about 20 minutes of sanding and re-measuring.

How often do you need to to a valve adjustment on a honda ruckus? I had mine proffessionally done by certified honda technicians at 700 miles, 1500 miles, 4,200 miles, and yet again at 5,000 miles. They keep getting tight. Why is that?

It's the annoying never-ending work on Honda Ruckus! I Snowbird from Northern New Mexico to California sea level every year so every time I leave high elevation & come down to sea level I have to adjust everything, constantly adjusting,what a pain in the ass, that's why I went to a fuel-injected 125cc Yamaha Zuma! The Ruckus looks cool but it's a pain in the frickin ass! I mean this is a Honda & it's a time consuming piece of shyt!!!
