Great stuff, enjoyed it. Good old days of smart uniforms and fire kit, Lff Sub O Stn O..etc.. not a ‘manager’ in sight 😁

I bet that AFS appliance might light work of that fire at the start with its monitor

Very interesting set of videos. My father was retained out of Gomshall from 1975 to ~1990. We barely saw him during the long hot summer of '76. As a youngster I would have my ear glued to the then unencrypted VHF radio to find out where he was going. Gomshall Fire Station was unique for a couple of reasons. I beleive it was the first station in the county to be opened completely with a retained crew. The OIC Peter Coldman was awarded the BEM for his service. Also for cost reasons there was no mains hydrant in the drill yard. Training was done with a sump and a LPP which fed a dummy hydrant.

Great set of films. I thought Guildford would've been mentioned though, unless I missed it somewhere?

Thanks so much for sharing this set of films. I was a ten year old lad when this was made and my Dad was a leading fireman (firefighter now, of course) in Cambridgeshire F&RS. There were many similarities, except perhaps the number of turnouts! I recall the Dennis appliances and tunic/legging/helmet variants seen. Loads of nostalgia. Was so very proud of my Dad ❤

thanks for that sparkydave, my father was also in the service so I know where you are coming from, I served in both London and Surrey Brigades.

Shame the two tones were mostly phased out by these time with all the engines associated with having tones now we're stripped

It brought back any memories, including Thorpe Park. Terrific films, well done Jim.

In a time before the LFB dealt with all the fire calls in the North part of Surrey . . . . 🤫

I bet they would be more reliant on surrounding Brigades these days in the event of a fifteen Pump Fire
@konradnowak24236 күн бұрын
Indeed. Most of the stations shown do not have 2 pumps anymore.

I bet Surrey isn’t as well resourced as this today.
@konradnowak24236 күн бұрын
It is not. And most retained stations are now 'nights and weekends only'...

Station looks very similar to few LFB ones
@LondonEmergency9999 күн бұрын
Surrey like LFB inherited Middlesex FB stations, and LFB inherited some of the old Surrey FB stations too
