You can make the sound much better in the plugin, since the filling is not fully used; this is one and two times the developers did not allow identical settings to be made inside the plugin with the hardware, since the hardware did not win in a blind test then))

I downloaded this awesome sounding plugin to my m1 air to try. Just added on a drums with couple of other plugins. But crackling sounds occurred immediately. Is there anyone use this plugin without having problem?

API has more heft and push in the low end. A bit tighter lower-mids than the Lang all around. As we go to the drums, I'm hearing that the API is a bit more "mix ready". I can totally hear how those preamps stack up in the mix to produce that "API SOUND". It's all about the compound interest on these boxes. The Lang certainly lacks that or doesn't have as much of that in comparison to the API. With the Lang coming in at $350 versus the API 512 at $950... yeah, the prices makes logic out of it all. In this case, you get what you pay for. So, instead of rushing to buy two Langs... save that money and get two 512's.

The Soyuz and Chandler sound consistently "finished" if I were tracking. The Vanguard compared to the others leaves me feeling I need to do more stuff to it. I love the sound, the "body" on the mic but the others sound more like a "record". I know horrible adjective. Thanks for this!

I only had one of the 251's here unfortunately. It does seem like a good sweet spot in the lineup, but the Vienna 12's still did a great job! I never had any harshness issues with them.

Really great stuff. I genuinely appreciate the time and detail that goes into your videos and this one is no exception. I have used the 47 and 67, but am very curious about the Munich. Was this mixed through the API Box as well?
@MillSounds
@MillSounds 19 күн бұрын
This was a really rough/basic mix of the song. I ran it through the box and dumped it to my Otari MTR-12 tape machine at 15ips to add some color. This whole song was recorded with the Heritage Audio i73 Pro Edge interface, which I'll be doing a separate video on soon from this same session. We expanded into the the ADAT inputs with my API Console for the drums, everything else was recorded using the built in 1073 style preamps in the i73.

do you think using the launcher for vocals with a u87 into a lyra 1 interface would be nicer than just u87 into the clean lyra1 preamps? Would the launcher add richness and quality or weaken the quality of the u87 into the lyra?
@MillSounds
@MillSounds 21 күн бұрын
The Launcher is just like a Cloudlifter or any other impedance booster/preamp. The Laucher needs phantom power to opperate, but doesn't not pass any phantom power to the microphone. If you want to use it with a condenser microphone, you can check out the Launcher Deluxe. It has a a "Saturate Mode" switch that turns it into a passive color box. You still get the color from the Launcher, but there's no gain boost and it doesn't need phantom power to operate (meaning you can use it with condenser microphones). You could look into buying some sort of external phantom power solution, like the Locomotive Audio Copperline that I've recently done a video on. You could plug your mic into the Copperline in order to power it, plug the Copperline into your Launcher, and the Launcher into a normal preamp to send phantom power to the Launcher. I've done crazy chains like that a few times, but it would be WAY easier to just buy a Launcher Deluxe if you want the color for a condenser mic 🤣.
@rapfactor1
@rapfactor1 21 күн бұрын
@@MillSounds i just realised it doesnt have the saturation switch like the delux model. my understanding is the launcher is just a gain boost where as the delux is gain boost and also saturation switch. well that makes it more closer to the price of a daking mic pre one which i read good things on.
@rapfactor1
@rapfactor1 21 күн бұрын
@@MillSounds thanks. it would need to be daking mic pre one or the launcher delux. looks like more tonal options with the daking whereas only one saturation option with launcher delux.
@MillSounds
@MillSounds 21 күн бұрын
@@rapfactor1 If you're using a condenser mic mostly, the Daking would probably be a better option (it's an amazing preamp...). The Launcher really shines more on passive microphones like dynamics and ribbons.

Their 67 is really great. They designed it to be voiced closer the the Neumann M269, so it’s a little different than most 67 designs (which I think is a good thing, I’ve never been a huge fan of U-67’s).

@ My favorite was the Munich 7, I think it’s a good “middle ground” of their line if you had to just pick one. If you wanted two different one to cover the most ground, just go with the extremes and do the Frankfurt 49 and Vienna 12.

Great unit, I just got it in as well. It seems we both have the same problem that when the unit is at starting position, the vu meter is not exactly at 0. Just also reached out to Heritage, hopefully they’ll have a solution to fix yourself instead of sending back for calibration. 😜 Maybe that little hole is for cal?

Used it on a bunch of huge records. The most instant of clients love the tones I'm getting. I was completely blown away when I got mine, too. Nice to hear a direct comparison between the two models. Best comparison video of that I've seen on these KZbins. Thanks for taking the time to do such a thorough walkthrough. Love your laid back style. Nice presentation. SUBSCRIBED!!!

I keep coming back to this video. I'm torn between this and the U87AI - The U87 impresses clients and is a well-known big name brand that will probably hold value decently well if I decide to sell it at some point. But... This mic just sounds soooo good and has a ton a flexibility. I'd love for anyone who reads this to let me know what they think.

I love how you didn't harp on the original style "rubber" strings - So many bass players immediately are like "I'm switching them out immediately" while I'm here like "but that's what makes them so different and unique! That's what I want if I get a new instrument - something I don't already have!

Can't really tell if the plugin is using similiar width parameter values. There's a clear difference within space between them, but spectrum/color wise not so much. Except for the vocal, but that comes at no surprise that the hardware unit has an edge here, not as big as i would have thought, but clearly there

Just out of interest, how does the Soyuz 013A compare with the Ambeo vr or Rode nt-sf1 for studio / location music recording? Interested in whether you’ve tried the Soyuz against these other A-format mics?
@MillSounds
@MillSounds Ай бұрын
@@MarkHarmer I’ve only had the Amber next to the 013A briefly. I’m only really interested in it for recording music, and the Soyuz sounded WAY better to me. Ambeo was thin and harsh by comparison. I’ve used the rode a couple of time and thought it sounded better than the ambeo. Pretty much all the other ambisonic choices are pretty clinical and accurate sounding mics, the Soyuz is the only musical sounding option I’ve found.
@MarkHarmer
@MarkHarmer Ай бұрын
@ thank you - that’s really useful. I use the Ambeo a lot more than I thought I’d do (though I have other nice conventional mics), because the Ambisonic workflow allows so much post-control and as a musician, I’m often recording my own rehearsals with various groups and I can get a decent sound balance without having to (or being able to) monitor. Really useful reply - thank you!

I think they're really close - on the voice though it's like, with the API the singer sings directly into your ear, with the Lang he it feels like he's one step further away. Very interesting. The Lang really convinced me - but on vocals I'd take the API - or actually not really, cause I am a Neve vocals guy. So, I guess I can go with the Lang!!!

You know...the difference is near negligible, tape - more body, digital - little bit of shimmer. In this case for acoustic guit I would stay with digital, however it might be different story on a master bus. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
