When did Roy reach this level of skill (technical and improvisational)? Its a tragedy that he's been under the radar so long. Just curious, did Lane and Holdsworth know about Roy and his skill when they were around?
@LawofThree
@LawofThree 4 күн бұрын
@@Soulshine77 I’ve had the technical facility since I was 13. I would say both technical and improvisation skills were not fully developed till I was around 25. Around 30 years ago well before internet. I think it’s important to note both Shawn and Allan were relatively unknown by the guitar community until EVH put Allan on the map. Shawn was the same. It took decades for him to become known. Same for Scotty Anderson and anyone else poking their head above the parapet. Anyone pushing the envelope goes through a ‘trial by fire’ process. They all like myself got/get a LOT of push back and gaslit to the hilt by the envious/jealous. I’m not unknown to big names. They all know who I am. What is important is I do this because I love it. I’m not bothered about becoming better known. If it happens great. If not, it was never meant to be. I am continuing regardless and pushing myself daily to be a better musician. Shawn knew who I was but at the time I played Epcot in Disney back in 1999/2000 he was just beginning to make serious waves in the Guitar World and I was practically unknown anywhere outside of Scotland. Not sure about Holdsworth. I would say he didn’t know about me but I can’t be sure. What’s sad about both Lane and Holdsworth is they never got to fully enjoy the benefits of their hard work when they were alive. But now they are dead, they have a huge online fan base, tons of album sales and everyone wanting to buy the same gear he used. I guess it’s safe to love something when it’s no longer a threat to fragile egos. I guarantee that wouldn’t have happened if either came from a wealthy background! This for another video. Thanks for your post. Slainte!

@@LawofThree thanks Roy for the detailed response. I have guitarist friends who did the networking thing in LA trying to make it, and it's really a closed system like you say. However we are very run of the mill guitarists so not surprised but it saddens me that the mega rich neon guitar playing "gods" wouldn't lend support to the likes of you or Shawn or others, instead of just propping each other up in their tours. I want to clarify that while your technical skill is absolutely beyond anything seen to date, you're complementing that with really sophisticated musical ideas. I cant think of what else one needs to do in order to get recognition on a wider scale. Well if you were a cute girl with cleavage I think you'd be touring with the headline acts. Oh well. Im glad youre playing for the love of music. Truth in Shredding as they say - the truth will eventually and always prevail. Thanks for being such an inspiration of what is possible.

Very very impressive. One thing I would love to hear is more high gain tone with some verb/delay. I think it would really create cool soundscapes. Would be possible to eq the drilling if it takes too much space.
@LawofThree
@LawofThree 7 күн бұрын
@@applegarden2448 Cheers! There are many reasons I don’t use high gain for my own music. Mostly because hi gain lacks dynamic range. The other is I haven’t found a tone yet for me I actually like. My clean tone changes all the time and I use that because I can get full dynamic range perfectly.I could do what everyone else does and use hi gain and I have done for sessions but I’m more interested in following the sound in my head and having those dynamics in there. This also for another video. That said I enjoy when others use it. The search continues. Slainte!

To be honest, there is one thing that I found outstanding that nobody seems interested in due to Mr. Marchbank's incredible speed. I'm talking about the sound, and I really think that a lot of effort and experimentation has been put into studying it. Your sound, sir, is the thing I like the most. That, combined with your technique, is something unbeatable. I really hope that we can hear your music outside these interesting, original, free, but niche contexts, so that it can reach a broader audience. Wish you the best, Mr. Marchbank!
