Reminding me to get out my little used Pentax 67, and get to work!!
@donaldlampert3312 күн бұрын
As always, you guys do a fine job, and your talents and creativity show! The colour shots are great, and I could tell the slightly higher richness in the second roll…… But, I totally agree with you…. The black and white film does definitely create a more classic, dramatic, cinematic look …. Reminds me of Film Noir movies of the golden age of cinema, when we actually watched on wide screens in a real cinema theatre…. Nothing compares…. And I miss that presentation of the photographic/cinematic art!! In another vein, in the summer of ‘23, when friends & I rode the amazing “Venice Simplon Orient Express” train from Venice ( a photographic paradise) to London… we were supposed to travel from Venice to Calais, cross the channel to Folkstone, then board the deluxe “British Pullman” train from Folkstone to London, Victoria Station! But major repair work on the French rail system had us take a route up to Brussels, then to London, so we missed Folkstone… which was disappointing…. So, thank you for the lovely views of Folkstone!! And now I know how you pronounce Folkston, as we americans would say Folk stone… It’s always a treat to see and hear about your fine work….. all the best to you both! 🥂🎆👍

Thank you for sharing your excellent photography . I like the look of film photography , I was using film for many years . The reason why I searched landscape film photography on KZbin is to see a reminder on film detail or lack of in comparison to digital , film has high noise levels & that's what makes the image organic insofar as simple one to one direct recording & documenting light itself , this gives it the magic & atmosphere , I can replicate this in digital , but it's not the same .

I'm quite impressed with your photos. The work day was very, very good. Very striking models, excellent for portraits. Very good compositions. Well exposed images for a typical London atmosphere. Excellent development process. Excellent digitization work. In short, excellent work. Did you process the film? The tonal range is incredible. What developer did you use and what dilution? Congratulations. You have a new follower! 👏👏👏

Very good photography. This film is a strange one. Almost zero reproduction of the blue channel, very muted and dirty yellows and reds. I am praying that someone would bring in a usable colour emulsion at a reasonable price, and at the very least challenge Kodak. Kodak has announced another round of ridiculous price increases and Ilford have followed suit and no doubt others will also jump on the bandwagon of increasing prices for products that are at least twenty to thirty years old with no justification. Sadly, this sort of gimmicky niche film will not be the answer.
@OnlyAnalogue12 күн бұрын
It's an interesting one for sure... Hopefully someone, somewhere at some point will grab the bull by the horns and create something for us 🙏 with Harman creating phoenix, hopefully more will follow suit! It's by no means an easy thing to do however. The Kodak price increases are going to put a lot of film photographers in a tricky spot for sure. I've made sure to stock up while I can 😂
@lensman576211 күн бұрын
@OnlyAnalogue I appreciate your comment. Sadly, in my view stocking up will only go so far to resolve this ridiculous state of affairs with film pricing. In the end Kodak will make a lot of money at our expense no matter what. I hope a drastic cut down in the use of film, and the subsequent pressure on Kodak from retailers who would lose sales will bring some sanity back in the film market.

I might be too late with this suggestion...the problem you are having can be with one of two internal microswitches inside the camera (I think there are 3 in total) that require cleaning/resetting. When these switches are faulty it prevents the mirror from resetting. I have also on one occasion fixed this by cleaning the contacts beneath the shutter dial. The film jamming towards the end will be a different fault, although I have experienced this before with the mirror fault. I was shown this by Santini, at Asahi Pentax, who is probably the most knowledgeable/experienced repair technician on Pentax 6x7 (and Mamiya).

My father gave me his Exacta VX iia just before I went on a long summer trip. It had a 55 mm f1.9 and a 135 mm f3.5 lenses,. both Steinheil. He had bought it around 1960, give or take a couple of years. I got some great pictures with it. But the cloth shutter developed cracks which led to light leaks. This seems to be not unusual with Exacta Varex (or VX in the US) cameras. I wonder if you have noticed any small bright spots on your photos.
@OnlyAnalogue28 күн бұрын
Hey! Ah that's amazing! It's always nice when a camera holds some emotional value as well! If only they could talk... The stories they would tell! That's a shame to hear about the cloth though. I haven't had any problems with mine yet... Fingers crossed it stays that way. My best shots over the last year have all been panoramas (digital and infrared). I love panoramas because I firmly believe humans have panoramic vision (cause we have 2x eyes, and thereby 2x lenses side by side). We have super wide vision, yet at the same time we can "zoom in" on subjects. So I personally love combining a long focal length with a panorama, to get a similar effect to what I am seeing when I look at a scene.
@OnlyAnalogue28 күн бұрын
Hey! That's a really interesting way of looking at it and I hadn't thought of that myself! I always tend to go with the wife for my panoramas but maybe I will have to try that! Thanks for reaching out and watching! It means a lot! All the best, happy new year to you! 😊

@@OnlyAnalogueit’s been a year since you made the video. Is it still pretty much the only small 120mm camera less than $500? It seems like all other 120mm cameras are huge and hard to travel with unless I want to spend over $1000 on a Fujifilm gw690, is that correct?
@OnlyAnalogue28 күн бұрын
I think you might be right, I've never really thought about that. The only other camera that's compact and affordable that comes to mind is the Olympus chrome six. It's a foldout but that does come with some problems unless you can find a nice one 😊 The LC-A is definitely the better option for being both compact and durable 😊

@@OnlyAnaloguethanks for your replies. I would like to get into more 120mm photography (I have a holga haha) that’s at a higher quality and less of a toy. But I don’t want to spend too much since it I am still a beginner. Again thanks for your help!
@OnlyAnalogue28 күн бұрын
@@Arty-et9rq no problem at all! We are always happy to talk about photography 😊 The holgas are really cool and can actually make some really lovely pieces of work. I have no idea how but some photographers I know create beautiful shots with their holgas! That's fair enough. If you're into TLRs that would be a great place to start. I started out with a photina TLR that I found for £15 and have been hooked ever since. The yashica TLRs are also amazing quality, for both the build quality and results. They can be found for a reasonable price 😊
