"Trump phenomenon and those stories..." Even intelligent Northerns prefer war mongering Democrats than Trump, who is one of the few American presidents who did not start any war.

I was 20 years of age when o,toole was born. I can totally endorse his portrayal of the First Programme for Economic Expansion as the base point for the new ireland. The economic growth since then has been truly amazing. Yes many small Irish businesses in the clothing and footwear trades closed down but foreign multinationals set up in their place often in rural towns. The Irish miracle should be taught in all business colleges. DAVID MCCABE Dublin ireland

Finton rightly points out that the Protestant population of the North oppressed the Catholics. But slightly glossed over the reduction of the protestant population of the South which declined by 85% between partition in 1922 and the Good Friday Agreement in 1998.

I was looking forward to listening to this video between the two authors. However, the background echo and oscillating volume in the video makes it very difficult to listen to at times.

I hope that, one day, Han Chinese women (and men) can learn to be as reflective and responsible as people like Ms. Schuller; we have yet to see even a modicum of shame from the Han Chinese for their blatant and ingrained Han Supremacism.

Linda Colley of Princeton & Maya Jasanoff of Harvard in Conversation about Colley's book: 'The Gun, the Ship, and the Pen' about the story of the emergence of Modern constitutionalism (democratic and non-democratic) with developments such as the 'instructions' of Catherine the Great, Thomas Paine's works, the constitution of Pitcairn Island which was the first to give women the vote, the Hawaiian constitution, and the 19th century Japanese constitution's impact on colonized countries. The discussion also covers the relationship of constitutions to war and modernism, and contrasts between US, Norwegian and British (unwritten) constitutions.

Never heard such pathetic rationalizations for eating animals from a so called early advocate for animal liberation. Please ignore Mr. Singer as he is obviously the master of pseudo philosophical bs. You want the real thing listen to Gary Francione.

A really excellent exposition of what we understand that Darwin didn't. I would have liked more from Dr. Dunsworth, but it's sometimes hard to get a word in edgewise in such a discussion. This discussion makes me want to read the book, and tells me why I don't need to start with Darwin. Thank you all for such an excellent discussion and presentation.

I like Foster's question about the aporia, but he falls short of understanding Heller-Roazen's commitment to Werner Hamacher's notion of philology. And he admits his limit immediately after Heller-Roazen's answer (how can he talk about sublime without having read Kant?). He fails to understand that, if one is not abiding by logic's rules, then paradoxes are nothing exceptional, but rather common.

The reason the EC cannot be abolished is that the current situation is a Mexican Standoff, i.e. some party is guaranteed to lose from any change. Which party loses will change, but not the fact that one of them will. So, they won't agree. The Popular Vote Compact looks to me like it cannot solve the problem for two reasons. First, it's hard to believe that the courts will allow the states to overturn the majority votes cast in their state in a specific election in exchange for some general, future benefit to the nation as a whole. Second, unlike an amendment the Compact will not be permanently binding. The first time all the Electoral votes in Massachusetts go to a right-wing candidate that the majority voted against, Massachusetts will withdraw from the Compact.
