Richie Havens, was, and had, a beautiful heart & soul, which he channeled through his music, which brought many together and raised the consciousness of many. In 1975, I worked a summer job at the museum of Natural History, with a Ms. Jean Kelly, the mother of Richie's daughter 'Becka". She had only great pride at being the mother one of Richie's children, and had only great things to say about Richie Havens. For this 18 year old young man, it was novel and intriguing. I later met Richie and Pete Seager at the Clearwater concert back in (I believe) 1996. Both men were very gracious to this young man, who was experiencing his first live folk concert, up close and personal, which included these two "Peace Movement" champions. I hope Becka, and all the Haven family are well.

HE IS SINGING ALL MIXED UP! This is his answer to the question of how to save the world! The song is more meaningful than ever to me and to hear Pete sing it. 34 Days until Pete Seeger's Birthday on May 3rd! Pete said that this world could be changed by a million small things. He goes on to talk about how this is done one teaspoon at a time until the balance of things suddenly changes, for the good we hope. I think he was talking about those small gestures that we can do each day in the way we live and act toward one another: kindness, civil courtesy, civil dialogue, respect for others beliefs, good listening skill especially when listening to the ideas of other that might be diametrically opposed to our own. I think too about wasting less, living simpler, releasing the need for a lot of material things, sharing more of what we have with those around us. He built his own home, a log cabin and lived there most of his life with his wife Toshi and family. He lead one of the most remarkable lives I have ever studied. If you are around South Haven, MI please come join some of the folks and musicians from the Foundry Hall South Haven Music organization on May 4th at 7 PM at the Church of the Epiphany Fellowship Hall, come sing and remember a great soul and folk singer. More details about this event and other community concerts and music programs can be found at the Foundry Hall web page, foundryhall.org. I already think that in many ways our world is getting "mixed up" as Pete sings and we are getting to know each other better, all different kinds of people. The internet has made that possible, we are no longer utterly isolated from each other and we can see others living and get a sense of their hopes and dreams. The internet can be a tool of good and unfortunately a tool of darkness and evil by those with malice and nefarious intentions. As we share our cultures and ideas and resources, our music, our food and cultures, we can still be distinct and unique and share the wealth of this planet. We have been at war with each other far too long, it's time for a new paradigm. I think we all want the same basic things as people, though some us seems to want more and more and that can never make for a better world. There will always be those with more and some with less but somehow we got to work out the disparaging difference in the classes. On this planet and in this age, no child should starve. We have the resources and technological knowhow but do we have the collective moral courage to deal with issues of gun violence, poverty, starvation, war, inequality, racism, terrorism and economic disparity? I guess we got to use our teaspoons more than ever! Get out those teaspoons and do some good in this world!

Without the market for beef and chicken meat most likely there would not be many chickens, cows, pigs, and etc. in existence. Only that which is useful for humanity will survive given enough time and the current pace of humanity. To grant these and all creatures a dignified life before being eaten or dying is what we need to do - not the end consumption. It is possible that when animals lose their utility to humanity they will die. To create farms that minimize the destruction of the natural environment while also maximizing life without needless suffering (for some suffering is inevitable in life, it seems). Also one could also argue that the natural world is a far more cruel beast that humanity is (if humanity isn't considered a product and therefore a part of the natural world and humanity's creation an extension of the natural world). Watching Planet Earth is a sharp reminder that nature is fierce and unforgiving.

It's true. It is simple. We can do it, we haven't tried, because we are all waiting for everyone else. But now we have the Internet. Let's get this love revolution started <3

+Fatalsprigs it's not that hard. All you really need is to remember to keep coming back to LOVE. It takes determination and maybe a post-it note. Actually The whole Judeo-Christian ethic is based upon this concept and has managed to be passed down for thousands of years so it has been known to be quite catchy. No need for shrooms ;)

I've been doing a great deal of really tough practice and purification over the past decade, and while many things have changed, unfortunately I have not had any decisive breakthroughs on the path, and it really affects my motivation and I get intensely frustrated often. This could perhaps help me to get that breakthrough and at the very least remove the doubt that constantly plagues me about whether there really is a state free from suffering. Btw, apparently a research study of a number of non-practitioners found that most of the participants reported significant positive results from one session of the Big Mind process.
@squamish42447 жыл бұрын
+Counter Culture I have heard that, yes. It is a rather brutal brute force method however. I just hope we innovate more in the spirit of Dennis Merzel or even technological means that are more efficient for others so they don't have to endure this sort of thing :) How has your experience been? Did you try this practice? I can't find it close to my area, although there are similar techniques around such as Sperry Andrews' Group Awareness Process, which I've heard is very powerful. I am worried that like many practitioners I could just keep purifying for many years but without breaking through that 'ceiling', not as effectively as I could.

***** Skeptical Mind is very strong in me. Part of it is the recognition that if Buddhism had employed more Skeptical Mind in the way the scientific method has, we would be WAY ahead of where we are now in terms of the speed and efficiency of the path. 2500 of development and enlightenment is still confined to a handful of elite practitioners. 500 years of science and it has gone from Galileo to supercomputers in our pockets. Now if the two were combined...well, I see Merzel's efforts as part of the beginning of that, but there is a great deal more potential there.

***** Well, I listened to his 2.5 hour talk on YT right after viewing this, so not long :) It was interesting in the manner of how he did it, but not really anything new to me. I have done a lot of mindfulness and insight practice and have seen all of these various "voices" in myself many times over the years. When I am sitting, the skeptic comes up, the controller, the protector, etc., not in so many words but I know who they are. Ten years ago I had a horrendous psychedelic experience in which I saw very clearly the artificially constructed nature of my personality. The shock was almost incapacitating. Integrating that ever since has not helped me to fundamentally benefit in the profound ways I have heard reported though. I haven't had the claimed kensho experiences that people at his retreats report after one sitting. So I'm befuddled.
@squamish42447 жыл бұрын
***** I do indeed think that my association of fear and terror with egolessness is a stumbling block. I was also an anti-anxiety drug addict for years and that backed up a lot of processing and screwed up my brain chemistry. I've also had struggles with wild kundalini energy. It may be that the threshold for a major shift is therefore very high in terms of the kind of prior purification, untying of psychic knots and physical grounding that I have to do. I have a lot of help in this work, thankfully. Ten years ago I had an unusual dream. Visually, it was pure blackness. But I heard my own voice tell me, "It's going to get worse before it gets better, and then you will know God." It certainly got much worse! So we'll see if the other half of the dream is correct as well, with as little attachment as possible :) I'll keep you posted. Thank you for engaging in this discussion with sincerity. Perhaps in the future we can share further wisdom as the world of spirituality continues to grow and change.

***** I'm not sure I believe all those things, but I appreciate the sentiment. And I absolutely agree that the work I am doing is very powerful. Thank you and best of luck to you as well.

Is everything you say absolutely true? No, there is always a chance that your observation is wrong. But that doesn’t prevent you from sharing a point of view, does it? So let's not be hypocritical here. We are in a public forum, and we share our views according to how things appear to us at that moment.

Only way for us to save the world and ourselves is to UNITE and EVOLVE further. The complete truth of life is finally revealed. It can and will unite us because it is the same for everyone and clearly shows the perfection of life. Please read the short text called *The Present* at *TruthContest* and you will see what I'm talking about. If we keep living in the division and ignorance, we will perish very soon. It is our choice.
