@@ForeverFunfairsUK2520 I remember reading that during the war, lol I sound like uncle Albert 🤣 During the war, many galloping horses centres were destroyed in air raids as they were mistaken for tanks when pulled down with the chimney laid flat.

@@ForeverFunfairsUK2520I have a few books by Kay Townsend a show lady from Townsend's of Weymouth who once travelled that area. The books I have by Kay are Showmens Engines in the War, Fairgrounds in the war and Showmens forgotten Scammell's all about the chain drive lorry. Benson's of London still use theirs to this day winching the loads off at Newbury again last Autumn. I may make a little video of the books I mentioned.

Thanks pal, yes huge ride to pull down was told it would take a week because some of the ice rink needed to be pulled down first don't know how many loads it's on would say many, there's alot of work goes into these winter wonderlands thanks again pal 👍

The beauty of this set is that it has been rebuilt from a complete pile of rot, Several people were involved in the restoration of this set (you will find their names on the horses), originally it was built just up the A17 from me for an Irish showman called Toft, but in 89 Emmit purchased it after it had been left rotting in storage for 44 years, its unreal to think it was turned from junk to a fine set in 6 months

Great footage …horrible cold wet pull down.. The gaff lads and yourself must have been very soggy. Loved the atmospheric shot of the guys pushing the remains of the waltzer platform round dim light and breath in the cold air…. But I’m a romantic fool…🎉

With the fair only being open for one night the price will be higher because the showmen have to pay the council fees for attending also costs in fuel for the rides and the lorrys, staff etc thanks for your comment hope you enjoyed the video 👍

I liked the way you take your time filming rather than just scanning around as some do. I filmed a few friends weddings during the 90's and bought books on filming and editing using 8mm camcorders and it helped considerably. I expect you were there quite a few hours filming and then editing for continuity and it shows. Great filming and keep up the good woork.

My grandparents used to live next to the Lawn. As a kid I would be so excited watching over the fence as the entire show was put together. This would have been mid/late 80s/early 90s period. Their bungalow was on Station Road. It's no longer there, but was a perfect location to watch, plus be right next to the lawn and could walk there and back. I have some storied about that place lol RE their bungalow. It was on the grounds of what is now the Sutton Young People Centre/Notts Council (53.122346, -1.253108 pin of where it once stood). The large old house on that site that you can see on Google Maps used to be the owners of the large Mill that once stood next to the dam in the lawn. Dobsons Mews new estate is where the Mill was. I remember walking around it with my Grandad. In the basement of that large house is a tunnel entrance, and the tunnel went all the way to the mill. It should still be there, but I know the entrance at the house end was bricked up at some point.

I enjoyed working on Freddie from time to time I was normally with Shaun on Stargate, yes I've looked at the forecast for opening night and it says snow unfortunately but better on Friday, temperatures here are really dropping though 👍
