GREAT VIDEO!!! I will try this technique asap. It will save lots of time. I have struggled with root rot when I cut caudex and/or main root even when I dry the plant for 10 days. I've learned my lesson about NOT watering when I first plant it.

You harvest it and then wait for it to dry? I usually leave it on the plant, and allow it to crack open. To prevent scattering of the seeds, I cut a short piece of straw to restrict it, or use tape.

But that is not the subject on which I was talking here. Iirc, the shell is measurably as hard and strong as aluminum. I was lucky enough a few years ago to get some ripe nuts off a tree in southern California, and I resorted to using a big bench vice and a hammer to drive a crack around each one. Hi!. On which Island are You located? Here on Kauai I for several years don't see it in the stores any more. On Amazone.com they sell shredded coconut fiber in 'bricks'. I do not use it or any other substitute any more because after my wife passed away (almost 5 years ago), I had to move closer to the mountain so it is wetter here so the roots started to rot unless I have no organic matter in the mix.
