recent college grad here (2 months ago) who has been to both chi and bos; they're definitely alike! chi is definitely larger, but both have their own cultures/vibes. In terms of college advice, don't be scared to join a bunch of clubs (easy to drop them), and definitely meet people in your residence hall. also, your first year "friend group" may not last throughout college, but that's fairly common. it's never "too late to make new friends. you'll soon realize that everyone is somehow connected by the time you graduate. your first quarter will be a big adjustment, so don't overload your academics. have fun!!!! but bouncing back from a low first-year gpa is difficult (but possible). if I remember correctly, you want to study bme, but don't panic if you end up changing your mind (deciding as a 17 yr old is ridiculous). go to office hours to connect with your professors! they are invaluable networking resources and great rec letters (grad schools, internships, jobs). many people take summer classes to catch-up/get ahead, but after sophomore year, I'd suggest studying abroad or getting those internships in. also, internship/job applications start as early as september (even earlier for finance/banking/consulting positions) for the following summer, so keeping up with company websites and job boards is helpful throughout the fall (make a spreadsheet to keep applications organized). I was a double stem major in college, and started my post-grad job (until whenever grad school happens...) a few weeks ago. It's not easy at all, but you'll get the groove of it eventually, and you'll quite literally never have as many resources at your disposal ever! so use them, and of course, explore chicago!
