Hey there, great deck tech video. Quick question, isn't Ward Sliver playable? I feel like especially against burn it could help a lot.
@IPlayMagic
@IPlayMagic 12 күн бұрын
@@Wayfarer_CZ glad you enjoyed the video. Honestly ward sliver is really bad because crystalline already gives shroud for 2 mana and ward costs 5. Plus the combat damage part isn’t as relevant because you have lots of guys that pump your slivers. In my opinion worship plus crystalline is the best way to beat mono red decks

why does every list run a singleton engineered plague in the main?
@IPlayMagic
@IPlayMagic 13 күн бұрын
@@shylatapia9115 because it’s a card that’s super powerful in certain matchups and the deck plays a bunch of tutors so you can find it easily. But you wouldn’t want more than one because it’s bad in some matchups so you wouldn’t want to draw it there

@@kovala aha yes I just rewatched it myself and it’s crazy to hear and remember some of the prices that I mention in the video. They’re up massively already and it’s only been 2 years. I did miss a bit by not putting those as number 1. I didn’t think premodern would grow as fast as it has. Plus I didn’t expect mtg 30 reprinting beta (no one did) and that really hurt a lot of people’s confidence in the game and old school era stuff
@kovala
@kovala 15 күн бұрын
@@IPlayMagic It is crazy how much WotC is destroying confidence in the game. I think that's a huge reason why people are migrating to premodern: it harkens back to an era where WotC design was principled and concerned with the overall state of the game, rather than milking it for all it was worth. Even legacy has lost its appeal to me. It was once a format that only undergoes slow change, but now it rotates just as frequently as every other format. Who has the time/money to keep up with it outside of deeply-entrenched players? Better to play a fun, balanced format that WotC can't touch. Even with the limited card pool, there's so much depth to premodern. I would argue its inherent balance even gives it more depths than other formats with deeper card pools!
@IPlayMagic
@IPlayMagic 15 күн бұрын
@@kovala yeah totally, I don’t think they can wind it down easily either because all of the new players will complain about the cards being unplayable. Modern era magic feels less like a strategy game and more like a game of overpowered bombs I’m sure I’d like it if nothing else was available but yeah legacy has changed so much over the past 5 years

@IPlayMagic 28 күн бұрын
@@alexsmith497 4 mana for a card that usually isn’t that big is a really bad rate. Especially when you factor in that a lot of decks don’t have creatures at all and only your graveyard will buff it. Call of the herd, blastoderm or ravenous baloth are all a lot better. This deck is really low on lands too so it doesn’t usual play many 4 mana cost cards. If you mean tarmogoyf then it’s not legal in premodern

I play a very similar list with couple of changes, I play 19 lands, of which 3 rishadan port, 1 volrath stronghold (game changer when it's in play), 1 phyrexian tower. I also play 2 phyrexian arena, 2 gempalm polluter, 2 skeletal scrying and a couple of smother. Unfortunately no cabal therapy but i feel that having the possibility of card draw makes all the difference when you're stalled. like it so far but haven't really played any tournaments as there aren't any here in Adelaide (but working on it!)

@@timellins check out my video about where to play premodern, most people don’t have a local scene and play online over webcam. Those are some interesting choices. Personally I’d never cut the therapies and I never really found that I needed card draw as the deck is so grindy. I can see a stronghold being good but I was very worried about the mana base and not having enough black mana.

Tha swamps of Portal, Portal 2nd Era, Euro Lands (EL's artwork, even if they are a little lacking in that atmosphere saturated with echoes of ignominious sacrilegious rites, asphyxiating miasmas and antagonism towards every living thing that other swamps have, are still incredibly beautiful in my opinion), some from Seventh Edition foil (#347), Arena League Promos (#73), Onslaught (#342) just among my favourites. P.S I want to point out that I only like and evaluate swamps with large mana symbols, because I don't really like lands with a description of how they work)

I just jumped into premodern playing stasis xD. Very cool deck allways been a fan of big red.. Just wondering how you play against replenish or any variation of tide wave combos, this deck seems very week to that. Grat video!
@IPlayMagic
@IPlayMagic 2 ай бұрын
It is weak to those, the sideboard needs to be updated with some of the stuff I recommend in the video. Otherwise you can fight their combo with powder keg on 4 and disk, I recently had to play the matchup in the top 4 of a monthly (100 ish player event) and we were both surprised at how long the red deck was able to survive and that the matchup wasnt a total thrashing even if it isnt a good matchup. Having said that I do think this is the classic thing of premodern being a small format and replenish being the current flavour of the month. Replenish is a great deck but people will stop playing it so much in a few months just like they did with oath ponza.
