That is absolutely sad. Despite the fact that we’ve never met in person. In the beginning of my career as a Software Engineer 15 years ago, It was your lessons and your happiness that kept me motivated to stay with PHP all this time. Wish you all the best. And, despite not being a very religious person. I believe in miracles. Stay strong! ❤

Hi Ryan, what an utterly awful news. I'm really in shock. I had the best time enjoying your class at the SymfonyCon in Paris. You really (still) help me developing as a developer. The way you teach and convey your passion for coding is something that helped me through the most painful times of developing. Thanks for all your amazingness and I wish you the longest and most lovely time with all your friends and family around. A big hug from The Netherlands.

Hi Ryan, I had the pleasure of meeting you at one of your workshops at Symfonycon in Paris. I followed your many tutorials on symfonycasts. I wrote you a few emails asking for advice and you were always available. Even if we are not "friends", this whole journey done, in fact, with you "by my side" makes me feel as if this news is being given to me by a true friend. I feel incredulous, heartbroken, angry. Hi! Is there any way to force the asset mapper to gzip the files?
@weaverryan Жыл бұрын
No - but you can (and should) have your web server do this - all web servers can do this for you. Or use Cloudflare on your site and it's automatic :)
@ValeriyTuz Жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan, thanks for this video. I have a question: what would you suggest for minifying assets while switching from Webpack Encore to AssetMapper in production? In Webpack Encore if I'm not mistaken something of node_modules does this "under the hood" when execute "yarn encore production"
@weaverryan Жыл бұрын
Hey! Good question! I would recommending not bothering to minify your assets on production. Instead, set up your web server (or Cloudflare) to compress (e.g. gzip or brotli) your assets. If your assets are compressed, minifying them *would* make them smaller, but barely. So, I don't bother :).

This is awesome, thanks for sharing the whole process. Would you consider doing something like this, but for creating a PWA (Progressive Web App)? In particular, service workers can't use importmaps, but certainly AssetMapper must make some things easier. I'd love to see a simple Symfony-based PWA that uses a stimulus controller (like symfony/ux-chartjs) and maybe gets some data from ApiPlatform.
