Martin Robinson is the same moron who wrote an article about a black woman being descended from a slave owner as if that was a bad thing to be held against her and not evidence that her great great great great grandmother was raped by the slave owner.

Not going to comment on the Grammar School debate but I decided not to take him seriously when he said "Islamic children" instead of 'Muslim' children. Followers of Islam are called Muslims and as a Headteacher of a faith school he doesn't even know this. 🙄

Super useful, I really liked your comparison of the garden bright to Eden as I found it helped develop the religious allegory in the poem.

So interesting. Much more engaging than words on a page to secondary school students who are struggling to wrap their head around poetry.

I failed my 11+ but I didn't let that affect my confidence because I knew there were students who were smarter than me at the time; I had learning disabilities when I was younger. I went to a Catholic school which was rated as "satisfactory" by Ofsted but it was the right place for me and I got excellent grades because the environment was nurturing and the teachers took a real interest in me. I didn't feel any pressure sitting my A Level or GCSE exams because nobody cared that much. Perhaps, if I had gone to a grammar school I would have felt more pressure to perform, been seen as an ordinary student and my confidence in academic abilities would have been diminished. I did consider going to a grammar school for my A Levels but chose to stick at my secondary school because the teachers knew me. I think some students will flourish more at a grammar school and some at a comprehensive.

I have seen so many videos!!! I stop counting Yours is the first one, that has given me a clear vision of writing an essay on my poem, my project was due last week, but I got an extension, I also have to write an essay about drama ( a movie). so now, I'm going to knock them both out, that's how much you inspired me..THANK YOU .. you have a new subscriber. I've been out of High School for 40 yrs and decided to go back to school in 2020 and get a degree I needed to take English 1 & English 2 for my BA. I'm a Mother, Grandmother.

This actually is so very helpful! I understand that in the introduction, you explain what the poet is conveying, the shows the overview of why this poem is effective, how is it effective and what type of way the poem affects your understanding. In the conclusion of the poem, you wrap up certain keypoints of the end of the poem and what lesson you have learnt

it's a great video, you also have to include the line of the poem you are referencing at the end of the paragraph in brackets.

Francis, thank you for your reading and scholarly explanation of the poem. However, “darkening” does not necessarily have to be a dactyl in this context. It, to me, is anapestic, meaning (for anyone who doesn’t scan or sing poetry) that the stressed syllable follows two unstressed syllables. To me, a dactyl there would force this line to have three feet with the last one missing part of its foot (forget that that’s called btw). If we scan it as anapestic instead, it has only two feet and seems much simpler to sing.

And the echoing green turns into a darkening green because industrial capitalism leads us towards a destruction of nature and an elimination of our species. Without sunlight, green cannot exist. Thus, bye bye humans no more will there be generational echoing. 🥳
