Getting some of this in 65# for the 7+ I need to get for my new 9 weight I just bought. Boy, going to be an expensive rig to only use two weeks a year. $998 rod, $817 reel, $114 backing, and $129 line. Worth it though. Swear by hatch. Been using them ever since I bought a monsoon used in the early 2000’s.

This is a crystal clear explanation of the basic mechanics of two-handed casting. The "aha" is that all of the different two-handed casts are done to align the line with the target for the forward cast. Brilliant instruction! Thanks for sharing this video.

Thanks Molly. I needed to hear this. I have had guys ask me to teach them but I hear so many opinions that I stick to the very basics. I will look into the online classes you mentioned. I am 60 but always like to learn.

What's the shank length?
@samwike45693 күн бұрын
Calvin cuts a up eye steelhead hook so it’s not exact but I measured his ties against some shanks and they are about 20mm long if you just buy a a bag of shanks

Nice pattern. Why do you use a stinger hook? Seems like a fly that would work well on just a hook?
@HouseOfFly5 күн бұрын
The hook to land ratio goes way up on stinger/tube style hooks vs. traditional style hooks. Especially when fishing barbless. A longer shank hook acts as a lever. So when a fish rolls or changes directions, it is easier for them to come un-hooked or wear a bigger hole where they are hooked.

Major Quality issues with G4Z. Bought 5-2024, had one replacement pair and 3 leaks with the replaced waders. Stay away. Good luck with customer service from Simms. Empty promises.

@HouseOfFly20 күн бұрын
That is senyos predator wrap by hareline that is wrapped on behind the head, and it is black ice wing fiber that I dub around the head at the end.

I use the first three lines extensivly in NZ. The MPX has a 5 ft front taper and the Infinity a 7 ft front taper, i.e they are both not 7 ft as stated. The MPX has more weight up front and having a shorter front taper is a better line for turning over large dry flies - e.g. hoppers and cicadas - on long leaders. It is a fantastic NZ backcountry line. The Infinity does not have the same grunt, but presentation with small to medium flies is better. It also casts further, as it has a longer head, and is better at mending at distance. The Infinity is a great general purpose line for fast action rods. The trout is a lovely line with incredible presentation at all distances when using smaller dries and lightly weighted nymphs. Having a reverse taper it loads quicker and can deal with more weight and more wind, without sacrificing presentation, than other presentation lines out there, i.e. those with very long front tapers (e.g. triangle taper or delta taper profiles).

Very cool guy, heard about him from skagit master first cause Ed ward bought his boat from Al and then listened to the fin and fire pod cast which interviewed Al. Cool dude that makes boats, lines and a great caster.

Thank you Mr Ward. The principals of loading a rod is best felt with a sustained water load. Every aspect of casting is about rod load. Your principals are the foundation of all casting load the rod and let it go.

how does this bag compare to the fispond burrito bag?
@HouseOfFlyАй бұрын
The Fishpond Burrito bag relies on a sinch to keep the bag closed. The Simms Taco bag relies on a zipper which is nice. Additionally, in this video Fred demonstrates how you can store your rods in it. I am not sure you can do something like that with the burrito bag as it relies on a roll-up and sinch system. I have never personally used the burrito bag but I would argue the Taco bag is a little more versatile. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

I stopped using scandi lines. like Ed said in this video, use a floating tip and a floating Polly/versi leader. I’ve been doing this for awhile now and It works fine. Is it as delicate as scandi? No but it gets the job done. I just rather swap out tips than heads or rods. Maybe that’s because I’m lazy, but it works for me.

I had privilege to see the book. I bought to for my friend who literally teared up when he got it from me. Wonderful book! Back to this video … What surprised me is that Steven who wrote this book was kind of unprepared to present. Please forgive me but since he wrote wonderful book, I was thinking his presentation will be outstanding! This is nothing to do with House of Fly. My favourite channel! Just my 2c
