The first thing I noticed when you were in the Chiltern carriage was that awful squeaking the whole time - that used to drive me mad on the HSTs, and I was delighted to see the back of them and especially to _hear_ the back of them! Yes, it does seem a ridiculous waste to have built those new carriages and then have them scrapped at only a few years old, so hopefully they can be transferred to Chiltern to replace the ageing Mk3s. I don't know what the performance would be like of a class 68 with _two_ Mk5a rakes attached! Also, good like finding a line with 11-car platforms to accommodate it!

Lots of concrete, steel and glass. Nothing to soften the interior or exterior like plants and trees. Small retail 'pods' for local producers would've been imaginative. Changing weekly or monthly, to give more exposure and test the market. I believe a real opportunity was missed here. To produce a public space that might encourage similarly innovative spaces across the city. I'm guessing that the lack of more seating before the platform barriers is to allow room for queuing. Especially for the Enterprise. However, more seating would've been thoughtful. For those with mobility issues and the elderly.
@matthewbroad67028 күн бұрын
I wonder why there are 8 platforms? Great Victoria street ran fine with just 4... maybe it's future proofing for a new train line?
@MikeWillSee27 күн бұрын
The idea is that _all_ trains into Belfast will now run into Grand Central station, when previously services were split between Great Victoria Street and Lanyon Place. The increased number of platforms enables this to happen and also futureproofs the network for new/upgraded lines as you suggested!

Thanks for a good, informative video with a natural, chatty style. It is great to see the serious infrastructure investment and know the future is secure. I wonder if there are any plans to reinstate some of the lost mileage?

Is there a bar? I didn’t seen one. 😢 There was a Starbucks! 😊 It’s clever that they’re opening this thing in a piecemeal fashion; the media, vloggers, etc. all arrive for the opening of the bus terminal, then the first train; the grand opening of the second floor looks like it may merit an opening too. They’re doing a good job with their publicity machine.
@odunadhaighАй бұрын
I don't think they're opening it piecemeal for marketing reasons. It's just that it takes longer to implement a new railway station than a bus station. The external safety authorities in relation to rail do a lot of checking, involving drivers and signallers, first on the simulator and then in real life at each of the three junctions. The railway station and its associated rail network was the first to be completed but the last to be allowed to open.
