I doubt it was always their intent to do the crossover update. And I feel like there's more to being able to read save data than just updating the game through a patch. Don't quote me on that since I'm not a dev or anything but it just feels like that has to be done with intent when designing the game as a whole. Maybe they could have added it but considering the massive size of the game already it might've been hard to fit into it with everything else they had planned. And if it was a choice made after the launch then they would've had to record a lot more to include both Alexios and Kassandra. And I get the historical accuracy argument but as much as the game takes place in our history it has always played with it too. 'Nothing is true everything is permitted' I played through as Kassandra and thoroughly enjoyed my time. Tried Alexios and couldn't connect. Watched his playthrough through my friends stream of it and can agree he is a strong protagonist but my personal best is Kass and I agree people shouldn't be criticizing others for their choice. Canon choice characters shouldn't be a thing period in any game if you ask me. I cant necessarily fault them for making that choice though; especially if they were forced to tack on Alexios against their will. It's a lot more work to contend with and some will say that's lazy on them but its a matter of time and money and resource and commitment that they might not be able to afford because after one game in a huge franchise is launched they're immediately made to work on the next.

I prefer kas, but it’s fine if you Alexios. Personally I like the male eivor more. Really just down to the voice acting. Female eivor seemed a little bit too gruff. I don’t know. Historical accuracy arguments kinda fall flat.

This may seem sexist but alexios just spoke to me miles more than Cassandra, I just don’t like her. (My name also starts with Alex), I don’t like that if you have played Valhalla then the mission with Cassandra is not Alexios because that is the ‘canon’ you made.

Origins was never meant to have a female protagonist ... at least not in the traditional way. Original plan was to have both Bayek and Aya but Bayek would die and Aya would take over. She would be the playable character for ... well we don't know, maybe 1/2 of the game. Maybe less maybe more. It would explain why she is remembered in AC 2 but not Bayek

I can understand that originally evior was intended to be female but the one thing that forces me when I play Valhalla is Odin, all the other sage characters look EXACTLY like their gods so in what world would the all father be reincarnated into a female Viking why didn’t they make it freya instead that would have fixed that whole issue. As for odyssey I played as both and I agree with what you said about alexios’s va he comes off as humorous but also intimidating in certain scenes but Kassandra is still a good character regardless and I actually got farther into the game with her but I feel like Ubisoft has issues when making protagonists that even go to today with the upcoming ac shadows so rpg character creation thing really messed with games

They didn't even need to look through the save file in Odyssey. They could've just given a dialogue option to allow the player to choose if the mercenary was Alexios or Kassandra.

AC Odyssey felt far more like a fantasy game to me than any other AC game prior. More than half of the mercenaries you fight, will be huge buffed up women. Like yeah..... they had that type of genetics and steroids back in the old days of greece..... And they were somewhat right though. Gamers mostly consist of men, and many of us don't want to play as a female character in an rpg, because it takes away immersion. Not everyone will think like that. Many people prefer in fact to play as a female because it gives them something nice to look at. And many don't care at all, they're fine with whichever. But whenever i play a game like Tomb Raider or Horizon, i can't immerse myself in the game at all, i feel like i am controlling a woman, not being her. But it's the opposite when i play as a man, because i just so happen to be one. I can't help it. And i doubt i'm the only one who thinks and feels this way.

The only way Kassandra would make sense in the Ancient Greek world, is if she was constantly being scolded and talked down to for being a woman and then she would prove them wrong because she is basically demi-god. Ubisoft is constantly trying to push diversity and inclusion in a historical setting and it shows (cough cough Yasuke). Either you make it as historically accurate as possible given the science fiction moving the plot or it's a completely fictional world were Romans can be Chinese women and Templars can be Koreans

The problem with the franchise is that although it is good to have a female protagonist at times. Most of human history and all cultures have heavily restricted females which is a big disadvantage for a physical type assassin. To have a female character work they would need to ignore all human history and all accuracy. Males in the past had more choice and freedom which is extremely useful for a assassin or warrior.

I never liked Kassandra, Alexios is so much more Charismatic of a protagonist, furthermore, I dont want to play as a woman, and players overwhelmingly chose to play as male Eivor and Alexios over their "canon" female counterparts. Clearly the majority of players want to play as male.

I disagree. I played as Alexios and didn't care that Kassandra is canon. I'd rather have known when I started playing so I could've chosen her since I like playing canon. But the argument that the canon sucks because you picked Alexios is just as stupid as people that complained that canonically their character has to have hetero sex to have a child even if you made your character gay. Canon is canon and you can't be mad that your version of a character in an RPG did something differently. It does show that making this series into an RPG was a massive mistake

I agree with all of your points in this video except from maybe one. Though spartan women were not part of the military and did not actively take part to training as their main role was to essentially work out and produce soldiers for sparta (hey im just the messenger dont get angry at me, thats what they told me in history class) they were trained to fight from a young age though they were not subjected in the agoge, because if the spartan army was completely annihilated, they were to be the last line of defense for sparta. This still doesn't excuse the whole shenanigans Kassandra goes through in the game but it does explain the flashback scene where she and Nikolaos spar with staves.

I honestly believe they made Kassandra the main character bc her VA is just better. I played as Alexios and honestly regretted it bc the VA sounded so fake and even had a dumb voice at times. I wish they at least gave a unisex name to Eivor bc the male VA was amazing just like kassandra was in Odyssey

I actually believe that, at least in odyssey, the original plan was to only have a male lead, and they were forced to add the female one for diversity purposes. Because like you’ve already mentioned, some of the game’s aspects just don’t make sense even within the story with a female lead, and beyond that, the vast majority of the promotional content featured alexios and not kassandra. While I’m not saying it’s impossible that the original plan was to have a female lead and they were forced to add a male option by some higher ups with different ideas, I’m much more inclined to believe that the devs originally made a game with a male lead simply because it made more sense to the story and would have been more accurate, yet were forced to add a female option for the sake of diversity and inclusion.

How does Valhalla feel better with a female eivor? I played through as male eivor and I wouldn’t change it one bit, felt way more real that way. Also no disrespect to the voice actress but female eivor’s voice really irritates me, sounds like she’s been smoking 40 packs of cigs a day for years. The male voice is much better imo. I played through odyssey as both Kassandra and alexios multiple times and I think both are fine, it’s really just personal preference. Never understood the people who said alexios’ voice actor sucked though, I never got that impression.

After completing Valhalla and doing the epilogue quests it's painstakingly clear that the canon choice was the split person. And that's not bad, what was bad to me was having the option because nothing invalidates hundreds of hours of gaming like telling the player "you were supposed to be this from the start" Just stick to your guns ffs

As a woman I like to play as a woman. But I agree with your argument against the crossover only including Kassandra. And the Olympics too for Kassandra there should've been a different option as you said she should've recruited a different athlete OR Testikles survives in her route but she has to babysit him all the time which would've been funny as well.

I played Odyessy twice. Once with Alexios and once with Kassandra. And although you have some very valid points, i enjoyed the game with Kassandra much more. And in Valhalla i could take male Eivor much more seriously with that strong voice the actor has. I think the best way to include both female and male protagonists to the game is as Ubisoft did with Evie and Jacob, or to a lesser degree with Bayek and Aya. But I’m curious how things will turn out in Shadows

This is technically a well executed video. I do totally disagree with your stance though. A Spartan female warrior is a perfect protagonist for an AC game. That’s what AC games are about, the marginalised, oppressed and the parts of history we don’t hear about. A canon choice isn’t a bad thing at all. It’s necessary for a series like assassins creed. That’s the problem with the game, the fact that you have a choice in the first place. You also use one quote as the only evidence of Kassandra being canon. This is wrong as well. Multiple people that worked on the game have stated she’s the canon option. You also have the novelisation of Odyssey which also has Kassandra which confirms her as canon. And lastly the evidence you chose to depict “they don’t care about your decision” that Kassandra appears in Valhalla is also because they wanted to reinforce her as canon. If they let you choose in an AC game it can mess the entire story of the series. That’s why choices for a protagonist in these games are stupid. Because even if you give the player the freedom you’ll still have to state which is canon so you don’t mess up the entire series. And in the process let people like you complain about something they shouldn’t complain about. Imo Kassandra totally works as the protagonist and is the best option. And I don’t think there is place in this series to give people the option to choose a protagonist.

It's not "Anti-SJW" to acknowledge that SJW crap exists and is a problem. It is organized, it is funded, and a significant part of that process is making people scared to call it out. Stop being so scared to speak truth. Cuz newsflash, starting off with "No, really, this totally isn't about being Anti-SJW. Please don't come after me!" is not gonna stop them from coming after you if you become sufficiently noticeable. And I assume you wouldn't be bothering with this channel if you weren't hoping to one day be sufficiently noticeable. If the word "SJW" scares you, then just call it by it's original name: Marxism. Making Kassandra canon was one of the opening salvos in that attempt to push a very organized and funded socio-political agenda into the gaming sphere. It was certainly the biggest salvo of it's time even if people were too tuned out to notice. Whether you want to call it for what it is or not won't change that. And no, Kassandra was never "intended" to be the only option. That's just what we were told AFTER the Marxists successfully completed their takeover of Ubisoft. Revisionist history and brazen gaslighting have always been two of the biggest arrows in the marxist quiver. ALL the Promo materials featured Alexios. The very story itself makes no sense with Kassandra as the Misthios. Ancient greeks were the embodiment of every feminists patriarchal nightmares/kink fantasies. They would barely tolerate a woman of EQUAL station walking up to them and speaking to them in a familiar manner if they did not have a male escort with them. Let alone have entire armies just sitting around waiting for a woman to come lead them across the battlefield. Ancient greek soldiers would rather die than endure the shame and dishonor of letting it be known that a woman took the vanguard position...the most glorious and honored position for soldiers... in their army and lead them to victory. Better to be on the losing side of that fight than to become laughing stocks across the greek world when word gets out that they let a woman do all the heavy lifting for them.
