I agree with the overall verdict - Max Payne 3 isn't really a Max Payne game, it's another one of Rockstar's delusions on what a game should be. I wouldn't say it is a bad game on its own, if the name of Max Payne was scraped from it entirely - it would've still be a decent game with flaws, but what makes it agonizing is the potential of what a modernized continuation of Max Payne 3 COULD be. Control performs in that regard much, much better without actually sharing the tone, name or setting of Max Payne. Control is a more faithful game to Max Payne than Max Payne 3, what a joke. I do disagree with you on several minor, more precise points, or rather... I think your angle is a bit wrong. When you ask 'Why would you remove the jump button' or 'Why would you make bullet jump physically interact with obstacles' you miss the point. Rockstar had an entirely different philosophy going into this project, that same philosophy plagues their games to this day and I believe it holds them back. It's realism, my man. It's all about 'ooo, let's make it look REAL, lets make it REALISTIC'. Realistic physics, realistic animations, realistic player speed, realistic weapons. When you shoot from the cover without peeking - you can still get shot because your hands physically catch bullets. Why would it work that way? Why would I blind-fire from cover if I am still vulnerable? It makes 0 sense from a game design view point, oh but it makes perfect sense from a 'LETS MAKE IT LIKE ITS REAL' view point. They did not add a jump button because jumping in the middle of the room for no reason is NOT REALISTIC, in real life you jump only when trying to cross a gap or climb over something. When you comb through the game and really scrutinize every detail like that - it becomes clear that they didn't really want to make a video game, it was more of a... interactive simulated movie, a showcase of physics+animations engine they were very proud of. Everything except the technical aspects and realism took a nosedive in comparison with previous games, the tone, the flow of combat, the writing, the setting. It doesn't make sense to make a game with completely different strengths and completely new glaring weaknesses, but it does if you don't really give a shit about the 'source material' and are just using the name to sell whatever you yourself want to make.

I still don't understand why people consider this movie best. This is actually just movie, not game. So many cutscenes with Max's talking nonsense, that's it, there is no anything to talk about. Gameplay is not bad but very repetitive. This is absolutely one of the overrated games

As a Witcher fan I thought this was hilarious. I was definitely on board with the mechanics in the of the game and the combat. I've had to mod the game to where I like it because the combat is actually fundamentally broken. Hitboxes are broken many things are wrong with it. So I'm with you there. Story wise I know it's complicated I know it's deeply political. I feel like the point was that you're in over your head because you are. It sounds like you played the first game and enjoyed it a little bit. I hope you enjoyed Witcher 3 because I do feel like it did address a lot of your concerns. I'm glad you didn't pick on dandelion or Zoltan... I'll say one more time I did find this very entertaining. And that I agreed with a lot of your points and I'm not making a big deal out of it because it's your opinion like you said.

Max Payne 3 is the textbook example of developers who never played, cared for or understood action games trying to make an action game. The game is more concerned with simulating physics than gameplay. I can practically picture the soi faced developer in the meeting room going on about how you can't just get up quickly after diving into the ground, that's not very realistic! Meanwhile RE6 came out at around the same time and not only learned all the lessons from Max Payne 1 and 2 but improved on all it's movement significantly while providing beautiful animation that serve both the simulation and gameplay aspects perfectly. God this game sucks. I see a lot of people criticizing the cutscenes but that is the best part of the game. I am never in any hurry to get back to the sluggish, pigeonholed gameplay.

@@Ahmef2987 LMAO this comment section is just drone city. There is nothing generic about RE6, no other game even attempted to do half the things it succeeds at. Terrible camera? RE6 has a fully customizable FOV even on 360 and PS3. Zombies are not even half of the enemy roster but they are the best zombie enemies ever in video games by the way, since you asked. RE6 might just be the greatest TPS ever made in terms of gameplay mechanics. The only discussion to have is subjective, like if you prefer other TPS games in the series for something other than gameplay or other TPSs in the genre because you prefer fighting human enemies with guns exclusively instead of monsters. These are legitimate. Don't talk about games you never played, stick to plebbit if you want to echo some mindless herd for validation.

@@Gavi-p9r It's not the gameplay loop that is bad or least fun it's more to do with the terribly implemented difficulty adaptivity that kills the flow of the game where out of nowhere at times you die way to quickly and unfairly unlike games like RE4 that did a way better job at balancing it. It's still a pretty decent game especially for its time.

Max Payne 3 has definitely better combat, gunplay and physics than the previous Max Payne games and it's not even close . The only gameplay feature that is missing from Max Payne 3 is the jump button and that's it, every thing else is better in Max Payne 3. Also Max payne 3 has a great multiplayer. The story for the first time in the series actually makes sense.

Now that's some "eat my ice cream with my forehead" tier words right there. If one day i bother to think of a top 10 favorite games list Max Payne 1 might make it in, maybe. That's my extent of "fanaticism" with the franchise. Max Payne 1 and 2 were two very well made TPS games that still hold up today. MP1 being ground breaking for the genre. MP3 is one of the worst high profile TPS games ever made before you even facture in what franchise it belongs to.

The only reason I would play the third game is because of the Sam Lake mod. I think, the third Max Payne is the only true one. I like the physics in the third game, but the setting is really strange. I heard, Max Payne 3 was planned to be in Russia somewhere. I think the cold harsh enviroment fits so much more to Max Payne. Let´s see, how the Remakes will turn out. I hope, they won´t be dissapointing.

Some criticisms they have about it are understandable like the unskippable cutscenes and whatnot but a decent amount of it seems misplaced and overblown cause it’s still an awesome game and great Max Payne sequel/finale despite some flaws that unfortunately plague it.

Controls are abismally bad, clunky AF worse than evil within tlou or Witcher 2/3 Extremelly annoyingly hard AF currently playing old shcool is enjoyable, HARD and Hardcore on the other hand, then the stupid NYMHC are impossbile and BS moments like not having bullets in last chance. Then the cutscenes always taking away your long weapon and then putting into a fight with your pistol Enemies extremely agressive and merciessly flanking you all the time . Movement sucks! Too slow!

I played it with mouse & keyboard and changed some controls to get the best experience like changing the roll button from G to The scroll wheel and it makes the gameplay much better and the movements more fluid and I increased the mouse sensitivity to 6 or 7.

Bro if you die that easily it's most likely your fault. Rockstar didn't want the player to stay in cover the whole game and wanted it only as a brief resting spot to catch your bearings, so they implemented ways of balancing it with enemies rushing at you or throwing grenades if you're in cover for too long and some of your cover is destructible meaning that even if they didn't run at you or throw grenades you'll die just by staying in cover. It's clear you're doing something wrong if you manage to die that quickly that many times.
