I'm so glad you're coming back. I'm north of you in Citrus, and I've wondered about you numerous times last year (Helene & Milton) and I'm sorry that life was difficult for you in 2024. I hope times are better for you in 2025, it's always a pleasure to see a video from you. Even though I've been a gardener for 30 years, gardening in Florida is a world of difference from gardening in the mountains of Virginia. 😆 Your videos have taught me a lot of useful information! ❤

@@gidget8717 thank you for your kind words. I’m always happy to hear that my videos are helping people. I’m in the northern most part of Hillsborough county and the hurricanes did do a lot of damage here. Helene wasn’t too bad where I am because I am not on the coast, but Milton was the worst storm to hit our area in over a hundred years. I grew up here and so did my parents and none of us have experienced anything like Milton. Even so, it could have been worse. We were lucky that none of our homes were destroyed. I got a few inches of water in my bedroom and the floor is kind of warped now but it’s certainly still livable- nothing like the flooding that people had near the coast. I know a lot of people whose homes were completely flooded and ruined so I am not complaining about the little bit of water intrusion I had. At the time the storms came through, my uncle had just passed away (September 3) and I was dealing with numerous other stressful situations at both of my jobs, so the hurricanes were just the icing on the cake. But we survived, and it did put things in perspective. I made a video on my personal KZbin channel showing what Milton did to our yard if you want to watch, it’s posted here. I’m looking forward to getting back to gardening and garden videos and happier things. I hope 2025 will be kind to all of us! Thanks again 😊 kzbin.info/www/bejne/oomZf4JqisSLo9ksi=EyRYo97ZU27LbT7P

@@CristalMermaid I’m so sorry for your loss 😥. That’s certainly one of the saddest hardest things to endure. Our family also lost a loved one to cancer in September. My aunt is on the same sad journey that you’re on, having lost her husband to pancreatic cancer after a two year, miserable battle. I live next door and have been trying to be supportive of my aunt in her grief. She is trying to focus on her garden projects and stay busy. I’m sure it’s going to take some time to get your energy back after such an all consuming ordeal. I hope you will be able to get rest and take care of yourself. @floridavegetablegardening
@floridavegetablegardening 5 ай бұрын
@@guesswho6946 You’re welcome. Most of the large strawberries that are farmed or grown in home gardens are hybrids that have been bred through traditional methods to have desired traits, like resistance to disease and fruit size and high fruit production. There are not any gmo strawberries being sold at this time, so you need not worry about that. There are some heirloom and wild varieties available, but they typically produce smaller berries and are likely to have very soft fruit, which doesn’t keep long. I have grown both wild and hybrid strawberries and I like growing different varieties, but I prefer the hybrid varieties over the wild or alpine varieties. Sweet Charlie is a nice, sweet variety that is also hardy. It’s one of my favorites. I also like Chandler, Festival, and Albion. Occasionally I see bare roots for sale that are organic, but usually not. However, once I plant the bare roots in my garden, I grow them using organic methods. If the cloves feel really soft and squishy and shrink down to a small size then I probably wouldn’t bother with planting them, but if the the cloves are still large and somewhat firm then I would give it a try and plant them in cooler weather.
