If only I could share my pics of out back of my grandma’s house up behind it was buildings built so much like his was in this video. And out on grandma’s back porch, they had rigged up a pump to pump fresh cold water out of the well 😊🥰

The house reminds me so much of my grandma’s. We’d go to her house after church on Sunday’s and I loved watching her mix up the cornbread and putting in an iron skillet. Then she’d put it down in her wood burner cook stove and then prop a piece of fire wood up against the door cause the door was broke. I came from a family of 9 children and we couldn’t wait to get that corn bread with a slab of fresh cow butter slapped on it. Then afterwards we’d go outside to play around the property. We was poor back then but I didn’t realize it cause there was so much love that covered that part up. Such good memories of grandma’s pop belly wood stove , but she’d burn coal and in her bedroom was a big 4 posted feather bed and outside was the out house. I miss hearin how the country folk talk and still the same to this day !🥰

This is still my favorite video on KZbin after all these years. God bless Gene & Hansel. I know they've both passed away. Ronnie is your cousin, right? Hopefully, he and his family are well. Hope you're well, Matthew Greenwood. Thanks for keeping this video up all these years. You've brought many happy memories and great joy to many with this video!

That's a very nice comment. I am so happy that I was able to get some video of Gene and Hansel and their Hermitage. I am not related to Ronnie, just a good friend of his. I saw Ronnie the other day and he is doing fine, just getting older like we all do. That's really special that this is still you favorite video, I agree it something pretty special. Hope to hear from you again in awhile. Matthew

Great video.... This is how my kin in NC lived...My Mom's Dad built a cabin and had running water from a creek cooked on wood stove....Nobody had any money in family except my Grandpa who had a military pension and supported everyone...A lot of nights with cornbread and beans...my Mom wore potato sacks underwear her Mom sewed.

My family came from the mountains like that. The place was called WYATT Holler on my mom's side. When we were kids, Dad would take us to see his grandpa, Floyd REECE. He farmed with mules and Clydedales. My people kept the buildings up and kept themselves clean. Just cause you live simple, don't mean you have to live in a mess or go dirty. Only a very few lived in those conditions, the lazy ones that had no pride. The Wyatts and Reeces were simple but kept clean and always had plenty to eat. Showing this lifestyle is a bad example of our heritage and how we lived in the mountains.

I have watched A Simple Life in the Appalachian Mountains 2001 for years, before he made all chapters: I lived in Arkansas and knowed several people lived like this in 1969 in Hot Springs, Up on the Hills even had Junk Cars and People lived with Kerosene Lamps. Yeah we went to bed with the Chickens and Woke with the Roosters! I also lived in Boone County Arkansas town Everton Arkansas in 1950's the old Nally Farm, wich was All Down Hill with a Sinkhole and Running Spring with a Iron Pipe carried water to Hogs Barn I had to Carry Water in a Bucket for Grandmother to Wash and Cook. Artwsian Water I am 74 Uears old been Healthy all my life- No City Water with Poisin Water like today! The Chemicals to Flouride in Water cause Sick People, the Healthy I has been always I was, Layrt People (IamBorn 1949) now a days always Sick, Flouride Water makes Hospital Millions cause Floide is Poision even though they tell you they ain't, they Lie. Thanks for your comment! Yes, indeed, John Henry was in the Hurricanes Band for many, many years. I think we had at least a 20 year run together. John was such a fine musician, a great vocalist and drummer. He was also charming, funny & charismatic, but also a Peter Pan type .... LoL! I wish John was still with us, we really adored him.

Luv the ABB. Saw them at the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium in August 1970, I believe. I went with my wife and maybe a friend or two. But, not my friend Jimmy Ringo, who might have gone and jammed a little with them backstage at that performance.

I love your comment. I knew Jimmy Ringo well. He was the most amazing guitar player. Jimmy was destined for greatness if he had just been able to keep it on the rails. I was also at that Municipal Auditorium Concert in 1970. I was 14 years old and was a huge ABB fan at that time. Do you remember, by any chance, Duane playing some incendiary guitar part and screaming the notes into the microphone at the same time? I had never seen that done before and it blew me away. Duane was just this ball of fiery energy. Thanks so much for stopping by! Matthew
