Great memories I sailed on leg 1 of the race can’t believe it was over 30 years ago.

What type of buoy/beacon would show this FI (4) 15s 28m 12m ?
@CitySailingАй бұрын
Flashing 4 every 15 seconds 28 m high above MHWS 12 Nautical Miles nominal visibility, it would probably be a lighthouse.

Very nice. Just curious, since no one can hear you, why do you check to see if there is no communication traffic on the frequency before you place the DSC call?
@CitySailing2 ай бұрын
You need to make sure the channel is empty or you will block their communication as only one person can talk at a time

Incorrect information at 5.50 minutes . Showing a vessel under SAIL from th front, port and star board lights correct, but also showing a steaming light.? Which indicates a vessel UNDER POWER. This particularly bad when the previous instructions correctly insisted that a SAIL boat engine driven is classed as a vessel UNDER POWER. So at 5.50 showing a steaming light must therefore be a VESSEL UNDER POWER from the front.

You are correct the writing on the bottom writing is wrong but the voice over is correct, I have edited it with you tube, thanks for pointing this out it is most helpful.

Question. I saw this in a movie. If the channel lights on your charts aren't exactly the same as the actual lights in the sea, is that suspicious, even if it's a slight difference? In the movie, it caused a shipwreck on coral reefs.
@CitySailing3 ай бұрын
They should match up, if the chart is outdated and not corrected then it will not. Sometimes the lights do not work or a buoy can be off station but that is rare. Make sure you are using an up to date chart
@johnrainsman66503 ай бұрын
@@CitySailing Oh, I should mention, movie took place in either the 20's or 30's. And as a matter of fact, the yact's owner said "Charts are never up to date in this part of the pacific." Would you like a link to see the beginning of the movie, to further understand the chart context? I might have some more questions

Hello Skipper. Some of the most fantastic memories from the 1st leg that I still think about today, The stars without light pollution, the raw power of nature, and the capacity of the human body to produce vomit! Fair winds and following seas.

I have just recently taken an interest in sailing so forgive me if this is a stupid question. In the last slide it looks as if boat A has no sails up which may mean it is under power. Power boats give way to sail boats? I'm a little confused.
@TheAegisClaw5 ай бұрын
B has no sails up either. I think youre mistaking the topping lift for a sail. Sp they are both powered vessels.

This is useful stuff for me. I have everything up to and including Coastal Skipper Skipper Shorebased, and my radio cert, but haven't sailed for quite a few years. so am going back over the previous course material as a refresher, before doing my Coastal Skipper Practical. This channel is perfect for that.

good overview of the basics. The one that is drilled into my head more than any other is that when you are in a channel e.g. the middle of the Puget sound, the freighters have the right of way. If you are in the way they can't really stop or swerve and bad things are going to happen.

You will need a certificate to operate to use your set, this is the course in the video we can offer at www.citysailing.com , the set you buy can be registered directly for free with Ofcom. There is no CG66 this is now covered by the RYA DSasfetrax system.
