1998 z22 is my dream car. my mom had one with a manual and she taught me how to drive it when i was 9. she ended out getting into a car crash and lost both of her legs. She died 5 months ago and now all i want is this stupid car that's decently rare to remember her by. The Z22 was a dealer package that was way less common than the Z24 that most people saw when these came out. It didn't come with anything special beside decals and looks unlike the Z24. You actually have a pretty niche rare car here surprisingly.
@nb_garage9719 күн бұрын
@nobudgetstories2476 Thanks for sharing that. I'm sorry to hear about your mother, that's unfortunate. I hope you can manage to find the perfect car to remember your mother with. I can relate with your story, except it still have my grandfather for the time being. Even though he doesn't drive anymore. It's not even about the car. It's the memories you've made in it. My father bought one fairly new, it was a white 98 five speed two door. Didn't have the Z22 decals but basically the same thing. He sold it to my grandfather and that car took us anywhere and everywhere for years and years. I loved that thing, he even had a name for it. Ever since I've loved these stupid cars, I owned over 30+ since I was able to buy them. If you find one, and ever need parts. Shoot me a message. I have lots of parts

@frankiemarchese2978 Completely stock engine. Of course, it had a lot of maintenance over the years. But the engine and transmission are both original and still work great. I'm the third owner of it, the guy i bought it from had got it in 2006 with 100k on it. He put the rest of the mileage on it and had a ton of service records to prove it was always maintained and taken care of. The interior and exterior didn't hold up to good, but the unibody was undercoated well before winter so it didn't rust out like most

@nb_garage977 ай бұрын
Us too. We live in such a throw-away society now. Hence, why even everyday appliances don't last. Hell, we still use stereo systems and old fans from the 80s & 90s. Much better quality. You likely won't see vehicles last this type of mileage anymore without some major repair bills. Especially those electric cars they're trying to shove down everyones throat

Especially with these engines. You can modify the 2.4L LD9 engine. And he L61 Ecotec has even more potential. However, with the money you'll spend modifying them. @kennethsouthard60429 ай бұрын
These cars were obsolete and unreliable in the mid 90s compared to what Toyota or Honda were selling. It's replacement the Cobalt was better, but also too late to be viable. That's why it's here, as I'm sure if the yard thought they could have made more selling it as a used car, they would have. As far as keeping other ones on the road, I can't remember the last time I saw one driving around and it hasn't even been 20 years since they stopped making them. However, I don't have to drive too far or too long until I see a 95 - 05 Corolla or Civic still putting in work.
@nb_garage979 ай бұрын
I'm assuming you don't have much experience with these older vehicles given your comment. These cars were just as reliable as civics and Corollas. Not to mention, a bit more power. They were just very under-rated and majority neglected. Not sure where you're from, but that's the first time I've ever heard someone say the Cobalt was better than the Cavalier. Even the popular car wizard on KZbin will correct your silly statement. If you had taken the time to read the description, they're actually not allowed to sell police towed vehicles for whatever reason. This car specifically was taken from a drunk. It had no issues besides an unreasonable owner.
@kennethsouthard60429 ай бұрын
@@nb_garage97 My experience with these things goes back to the 80s when they were known as J cars. They were more stylish and popular then. I almost bought a Buick Skyhawk in 85. However, when the 90s came around and they were reduced to the Cavalier and Sunbird, boy did they get cheap. My ex-wife had a 97 Sunbird when I met her and what a piece of junk with an engine that blew the head gasket at 15K, hard plastic interior and cheap upholstery and rough ride. Granted a lot of GM cars suffered from similar cost cutting in the 90s, but Cavaliers were throw-away cars. Hondas and Corollas were just better built, more solid and reliable machines with superior engineering. In 2021 ago a friend gave me a 98 Civic for my son's first car. It needed a timing belt and few other things that I hit the wrecking yard for and just about every Honda I found in the yard had well over 250K on the clock. My ex-wives 97 Sunbird looked tired when we traded it in for $3,000 in 2001 with less than 40K. By the way, I sold that 98 Civic for 3K last year when my son went to college. I doubt that Sunbird made it till 2007 before it's date with the crusher. The Cobalt was a more modern and refined car that drove better and was more stylish and a needed replacement for the Cavalier at the time which really had not changed at all from 95 - 05 vs. the Civic which had gone through three generations in that same timeframe. However, the Cobalt probably should have been introduced around 2000. GM financial troubles were probably why it stayed around for as long as it did. I remember getting a few Cavaliers as rental cars back then, and I was amazed that they could still sell the thing compared to when I would also get Corollas which were much more pleasurable to drive. I guess every car has people that love them, but the Cavalier to me was just an inferior car that was not invested in and kept around way too long. By the way, I live in Southern, CA where rust is not an issue and I can't remember the last time I saw one and I can't go for more than a mile or two without seeing a Corolla or Civic of the same vintage.
